Growing up in West L.A., I used to drive past this hotel every day, back when it was part of a big chain. I haven't lived in L.A. for a long time, but when I needed a place to stay overnight recently, I was interested to try The Hotel Angeleno. They are doing a good job of creating a unique kind of hotel "personality" to go with the unique structure. I was only here for a night, and didn't even make it to the lobby happy hour, the bar/restaurant or pool. Everything went smoothly with the front desk and the valet parking (no other option, just factor it into your decision re: price). As for the interior, my third floor room was spacious and comfortable. The shape of the room is unique, not exactly like a slice of pie, but narrower where you enter and wider at the outer wall of course. The bed and the bedroom furnishings were all modern, clean, and comfortable, and the bathroom was clean and well decorated. If you look closely in spots you can see the building showing its age slightly in the nooks and corners, the plumbing fixtures, and other small matters - but nothing of real concern at all. The hotel is right next to the 405 freeway, and is not walking distance to much of anything. The noise from the freeway is constant but not bothersome (I had the window close the whole time). If you're prepared for that (it's a major city, after all), no worries. It was basically white noise in the background and I slept very well. I would definitely go back. Read less

My check in the hotel was very easy. Hotel employee Roman was extremely professional and accommodating. Provided my friend and me with very useful information about the hotel and surrounding area. Was very helpful, which we very much appreciated. The room is very updated and clean.

I remember staying here eons ago when it was a Holiday Inn. It's been much upgraded since then, and we enjoyed the weeklong stay we recently had there. Great location for everything we wanted to do--UCLA, beaches, studio tour and one day heading into downtown. Other pros include the relaxing pool area and the fitness room. Used the fitness room most days. It's small and could do with a little more space for using the free weights, but most days there were only 1-2 others in there, and they were using the cardio equipment. Rooms are small, but comfortable and well cleaned. The front desk staff was always accommodating and friendly. I don't love paying so much for parking, but I have to say that the valet service was among the best I've encountered. We never had to wait for our car as they always had several staff members who were quick and did a great job getting cars to guests. The only downside is that there isn't accessible food other than the top floor restaurant. We had breakfast there most days because of the convenience, but it is pricier than I would normally spend for breakfast. There isn't much to walk to, and the downstairs store that sells coffee and snacks isn't open on weekends, forcing us to leave the hotel to get something to eat. Overall, a good stay, and I plan to stay there again. Read less

I have stayed at the hotel several times and is one of my favorite hotels in LA. Great Location, food, & service. The front desk is so accommodating. Edith and her staff really know how to serve their guests.

In town for college visits and a concert at the Hollywood Bowl, we had a one night stay at Hotel Angeleno on a Saturday in June that may turn out to be the best value of our trip. Based on other reviews (thank you, reviewers!) I was able to go directly to the Hotel Angeleno, make an account with their Inner Circle Club, and book their lowest rate for a West Coast Double room. Because of the way I booked it the rate included free valet parking, two free drink coupons and late check out at 3 pm. The rate was also supposed to include early check in at noon, but a request about that availability was rebuffed at both 9 am and 11:30 am in person and by phone. This was disappointing, since we were hoping to clean up after a long red eye plane flight and before a music festival. It would be helpful if the website was clearer that this is an option that may not be honored, rather than indicating it is available as part of the rate/reservation type. When we arrived to check in after the festival we were offered a free upgrade to a suite with a king bed and a sofa pullout. Apparently they gave away all the West Coast Double rooms to folks who were staying multiple nights. That was a lovely surprise and the original rate of our reservation was honored. We were also able to request the 3 pm late check out. Rolando, at the front desk, was very kind and helpful. The king mattress was soft, but comfortable. Road noise was in the background, but not disruptive. Noise from other customers was nonexistent. The bathroom looked really new and didn't have any mildew. There were plenty of towels and toiletries. The view from both rooms was really spectacular. There were both sheer and light blocking window shades so we could sleep in. There were plenty of coffee pods for the coffee maker. My partner did use the workout room on Sunday morning and reported that it was clean and empty for most of his visit. There was chilled, filtered water to fill your bottles. We were able to use our free drink tickets at West Restaurant for lattes in the morning - since they were closed by the time we arrived on Saturday night. The view from West Restaurant is gorgeous and there was live music going on when I popped in. A couple of cons: 1) The upholstered furniture in this hotel is in need of replacement. It is worn and stained. It is a little unappealing to sit on since you don't know what the stains are from. The window shades are also in need of replacement and worn from use. 2) There are barn doors on the bathroom and between rooms in the suite. Barn doors don't give a lot of privacy, and they get stuck easily. I'd recommend the hotel re-evaluate these doors the next time they are redecorating. 3) There doesn't seem to be great communication between different parts of the staff. We arranged for late check out, but then housekeeping knocked on our door at noon wondering why we were still there. That was quickly followed by a phone call from the front desk asking whether we were checking out. Once I reminded them that we had late check out as part of our reservation they looked it up and backed off, but it didn't feel very polished. Ultimately, the price we paid for the room in this location off set all of the cons. It was a really good value. I'm not sure I would have felt that way if we had to pay a steep valet parking fee or full rate. Read less
