I had a terrible experience with booking at this hotel. What used to be the W is now The Starling Atlanta Midtown. I had a nice welcoming experience checking into the hotel. The lobby was beautiful and the front staff appeared friendly and hospitable. The terrible experience occurred once I was fully checked in. The room I was sent to on the 16th floor looked and smelled like a dirty old motel. I immediately contacted the front desk who suggest I move across the hall. That room was also filthy. They moved me to a 3rd room which smelled a little better but had broken doors, and mold all over the shower floor. I proceeded to contact Hilton’s customer service line who put me in contact with the manger of the hotel Colin. Colin was unfriendly, extremely rude, and told me that the best option would be for me to leave the hotel as they would not be able to accommodate my request for a clean room. I was completely appalled and let Colin know that it was Thanksgiving week and where was I supposed to find a hotel last minute. I told her all I was asking for was a clean room, and was not even requesting an upgrade. I let him know to personally come and check the room himself and see that every room they put me in was filthy. He informed me that he does not check the rooms but he believes me. And then said he did not think this hotel would meet my expectations and requested to give me a refund and leave. I ended up going to another hotel, and paying 3 times as much because of last minute accommodation. I am livid and cannot believe I was treated so poorly at this establishment. I was very friendly to the staff through this entire ordeal. I am also a Hilton honors reward member and have stayed at numerous Hilton locations throughout the year but this was by far the worst experience I have ever had. I do not believe I will ever stay at another Hilton again unless this is rectified. Read less

Had to move rooms due to a constant banging in our room beginning at 5:30am and going on for hours. Front of house staff extremely accommodating; moved us at 1pm. Called front desk and housekeeping at 4:30pm when I realized that I forgot to pick up the charger for my husband’s hearing aids, along with an Apple charging cube and cord that were left on the bedside table. Housekeeping did not answer, however front desk alerted security who went to old room and said someone had checked in. Housekeeping denied seeing anything in room. Long story short….these types of things do NOT vanish into thin air! Someone picked it up and kept it! Thank you for forcing my husband to attend meetings where he could not hear. Kept following up for two days trying in vain not get these items back - no one knew anything. Bottom line…stay here at your own risk! Know that there are people here who are not honest and have absolutely no problem stealing from the guests who stay here. I’m still waiting for a follow up call. Read less

Had a quick business trip. Chose based on location and ended up being pleasant surprised. Location, cleanliness and esthetics were amazing. Plenty of places for quiet work areas and cute pictures as well. Definitely recommend and will stay again!

I had the worst experience here and let me tell you why: 1.My company had negotiated a free breakfast with my stay. It was stated in the contract and when I booked the hotel. The first morning, I asked about where the breakfast was and made sure it was included with the room. They said it was not included. I showed them my booking and the front desk guy said he'd go check with his manager. They again said it's not included. Not wanting to pay over $30 for a sad buffet, I went somewhere else. I called my company's travel team and they confirmed that breakfast was included. I sat on a call while they called the hotel and talked with them. After ~1hr, they finally confirmed that the Hotel was wrong and breakfast was included. The manager said he would make sure his staff would honor the contract and would not charge me if I had breakfast there that morning. Of course I didn't have breakfast there, but at least they finally honored the contract. 2. There was a decently loud banging noise that was coming from behind the shower wall. It kept me up most of the first night, so the next morning I requested the hotel staff to please have someone come and take a look, they said they would. I arrived back at the hotel in the evening to find that nothing had been done and the noise still there. I went back down and requested, again, for someone to come take a look. They sent someone up immediately, and maintenance let me know it was an issue with the room next door, they went to go fix. After waiting ~2hrs!!!, I never heard back from the maintenance person. It was late (around 10:30pm I believe) and I had early meetings the next morning, so I called the front desk and they offered me a new room, as the issue was still not fixed. They said to call back once I was fully packed and would send someone up with my new room key so I don't have to come downstairs. I called back and there was a different person on the phone and they rudely told me I they had the key at the front desk to pick up. I was so frustrated because I was already in my pajamas and was so tired. They made me run down with all my luggage, get the key, and then go right back up. Normally it wouldn't have been a big deal for me to run down there, but after the experience I had and the fact that it was late, I thought it was extremely rude. 3. After the fiasco with the room, I decided to write a note about my issue to the staff in the automated text check in/feedback service they had. I wanted to record everything that had happened. It was 11:30PM by the time I was finished, and they said to give them a call to help with fixing the issue. I was very upset and did not want to call them. I had expressed how tired I was and that I just wanted to go to bed as it was so late, and mentioned their response to call them to fix the issue was tone deaf. I know it was an automated message, but I wasn't going to spend more of my time trying to make my stay better, when I had already given them a chance to fix it in the first place. I just went to bed and wanted to deal with it in the morning. However, as soon as I fall asleep, a loud ringing noise happens and I realize it's the front desk calling the room phone. Again, another tone deaf response to this issue. 4. After my stay, I sent an email to corporate to express my grievances and that I thought that the way things were handled were not okay. I didn't want to speak to anyone at that hotel because I was so mad and wanted to deal with the issue after I had cooled down. Of course, no response from corporate even after 14 days. I guess they just don't really care about this. (P.S. I'm a gold member, but probably will be switching to a new chain in the future). 5. After all this, I would say shower pressure was not great, bed was too hard for me, and definitely was not the cleanest hotel I've stayed in. Though, valet staff was very nice, there were a few other staff members that were very kind, and I liked the indoor and outdoor common areas for sitting and working. 6. I would also like to note that hotel comments on these types of reviews are obviously just ploys to try and lessen the blow of the review. In my experience the hotel was always doing thing too little and too late and it's not worth spending money staying here when there are so many other options in Midtown. I shouldn't have to make sure my stay is comfortable, I shouldn't have to ask multiple times to get help or things that are negotiated in the contract. If they actually cared and were as sorry as they are in the replies to the 1 star reviews, I wouldn't have had the experience I had. Read less
