This is our 3rd time staying at this resort in the past 10 years. Each time we have visited this resort it has been for a mix of meetings and family time. The first two times we stayed here, July 2012 and July 2018, we were so thrilled with the resort and all of its amenities. This time was starkly different. We were so disappointed in most aspects of this resort. Firstly, we had to book 2 rooms for a family of 5, no rollaways in rooms with 2 queen beds. That is understandable and digestible due to fire codes etc. But, of course, the cost doubled immediately. Upon check-in, we noticed a different aura to the resort right away. There was a musty smell throughout the lobby area. The next morning we walked around excitedly in what was a familiar resort to us. Our excitement was quickly diminished. The common areas, including the pool areas, hallways, and restaurants seemed run down and unkempt. Spider webs lined the common areas light fixtures, statues, signage and bird cages. Elevators were dirty, old dried up coffee spills along the hallways. The outdoor furniture and tables were dotted with dried up bird excrement. The pool chairs were already accounted for by 8:30am every morning. There has to be a better system to give everyone a chance to hang out by the pool. The area near the slides had a strong smell of urine...and construction was going on at certain parts of the pool. Why could this not be scheduled in the off-peak times? The quality of food in Swan Court, for the breakfast buffets and menu items, was poor quality with obscene pricing. If the quality of food was acceptable, the pricing could be justified. Umalu's food was much of the same; high prices and low quality of food. The only two positive points of the resort during this trip were the responsiveness of housekeeping and the text system to contact guest services. The phones in both of our rooms were not working during our 8-day stay. We asked for it to be fixed a few times, but it was never fixed. So, the text system of contacting guest services was a lifesaver for us. Do better, Hyatt. If you are going to charge astronomical prices, make it worth it to the consumer. Resorts in Maui are a dime a dozen. What distinguishes you from the rest? Read less
