Image of the Tripadvisor rating Worst stay at Maui in last 5 trips. Beware of bait and switch: pay for picture of upgraded unit - get 30 yr old unit

If i could give zero stars to this property i would. Booked it via aa vacations, pictures of upgraded unit were posted as bait and switch. What we got is unit that has not been upgraded in 30 years, mold in bathroom, toilets stopped working the day of check in. We are here for Thanksgiving week and no upgraded units are available. Our stay at Kapalua villas more than exceeded our expectations. We booked this trip through Costco travel and we stayed at the gold ocean view ridge villas (1 bedroom) for 10 days. We read the reviews and went with low expectations since we usually book our stays with Airbnbs. Please note, I took these photos when we were checking out, so please excuse the mess! We thought we booked a mega touristy resort but it was the total opposite. The resort/Kapalua villas were immaculate, quiet and gorgeous. Our apartment was huge, had a big master bedroom and TWO full bathrooms. The apartment was renovated and everything was sparkling clean. The balcony and the view were stunning. The kitchen had EVERYTHING we could ever need to cook full meals. We stopped at Costco after the airport and bought plenty of food to eat for breakfasts on the balcony and lunches on the beach. Check in was easy and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Every morning we would see smiling staff in golf carts pruning the beautiful gardens around the property. The location is at the western most point in Maui, but we really didn’t mind. We had several beautiful beaches near us: Kapalua beach, Napili beach, and Kaanapali beach. We also had Oneloa beach right across our apartment which we loved. It was always empty and plenty of fun to swim in the waves. Every now and then we would see surfers and windsurfers on Oneloa beach which was always a treat. There’s also amazing restaurants right next to the Kapalua Villas, like Merriman’s and the Gazebo restaurant. Kaanapali and Whaler’s village was less than 15 mins away which was very convenient. Lahaina is also 15 mins away. Overall, we highly recommend booking here. So far, this has been our most relaxing trip yet! Read less

Now I know what Hawaiian Royalty must have felt like, looking out over one of the very best beaches on the planet and falling asleep to the light sounds of the crashing of waves. Now I know what Hawaiian Royalty must have felt like, looking out over one of the very best beaches on the planet and falling asleep to the light sounds of the crashing of waves. Kapalua must have an army of Gardiners and Landscapers. It's exquisitely trimmed with lush, colorful greenery and flowers. We expected Maui to be hot and so far it hasn't been.(ocean breezes) Golf courses are everywhere you look. I may have already gone to heaven. I'll check and get back to you on that one. Kapalua Villas give one the strong urge to DO THIS AGAIN. We love having the option of preparing our own meals as we like. (Costco at Kahului, has the best New York Steaks imaginable) The privacy afforded at Kapalua Villas makes this option a dream .unbeatable anywhere. The quiet is also greatly appreciated. As another reviewer said of Kapalua Villas, "It does wonders for my soul" Amen. Read less

We stayed in a 2 bedroom Gold Ocean view Bay Villa. This was booked through Costco Travel as a package with airfare and a full size car for 1 week. The condo was very nice and large with 2 bedrooms one with a king and the second with queen bed which were very comfortable. There were 3 full bathrooms. The kitchen was well stocked and very functional but was missing hot pads and the oven door did not close tightly. There were several nice eating areas and a lanai with ocean views. These are villas with at least 2 units in each building . We were on the ground floor with a unit above us. It was very quiet. Our unit in Bay Villa #25 had amazing ocean views and a nice pool immediately below the unit on the cliff above the ocean. You could walk to Oneola beach from the condo. The unit had a compact washer and dryer. Several ceiling lights and a bathroom fan were not working. The property did waive the resort fee as a result of these deficiencies and the oven door issue. You will have to pay extra if you want cleaning services during the stay. No fresh towels midweek were provided either, but the unit had plenty of bath and beach towels. This property is very large, if you want to be near the ocean you need to be in one of the Bay Villas, the Golf and Ridge villas are quite a way from the beach above the road. This property is on the west side of Maui .There are some very good restaurants nearby but it is quite a drive to Lahaina-40 minutes and about 90 minutes to the base of Haleakala. There is excellent snorkeling at Kapalua Beach just a 5 minute drive from the Bay Villas. We really enjoyed our stay here in this unit. Read less

We booked Unit 20B 2, hoping for views and a decent place to stay but not expecting duct-taped air conditioning units, water that did not heat up, a strange smell like a sewer, a rusted dishwasher, a stained kitchen sink with missing parts, and the most annoying thing, a main kitchen cabinet door that fell off every time we opened the one next to… Read more

The views are beautiful but for $500 - 600 per night you would not expect falling cabinet doors and duct tape!!! Read less
