The hotel

This recently renovated hotel sits directly on a wide stretch of beach in the quiet, pretty resort of Wailea and is ideal for both families and couples. Kids will get a kick out of their own pool with its two water slides, while adults can kick back and sunbathe by their own pool, or relax in the hot tub. There's a Mandara Spa with a range of pampering treatments, or you can explore the surrounding countryside on foot along several hiking and nature trails. Enjoy a new signature restaurant for all-day dining, including a wonderful breakfast buffet and an informal poolside restaurant featuring nightly Hawaiian entertainment. The hotel is within easy walking distance of The Shops at Wailea - an upscale shopping mall. There are three golf courses nearby and countless activities like horse riding, scuba-diving and sailing, which means you'll never be short of things to do.

We have stayed in this hotel multiple times. We really enjoy the peace and quiet here. I am picky about my room so if you are looking for an "oceanfront" room, you need to read the description carefully. We have stayed in multiple wings of this hotel. Of course, our favorite is when we splurged and we did the "oceanfront sundeck." This time we had a "sundeck with an ocean view." This means you have to go out on your sundeck to see the ocean. It does not mean that you will be in your room and see the ocean, as I mistakingly thought. I have stayed here in rooms labeled "ocean view room" and had a view from the room but not this one. The view was only from the sundeck. They have some rooms that have the decks that face directly towards the ocean with the pools between you and the ocean. Just read the description carefully so you know what you are paying for. However, it was nice to end the day laying on our own lounge chair on the sundeck and look to my right to watch the sunset. All of the rooms we've stayed in are nice and have the same very spacious layout. This room faced the bar and family pool, which meant the ocean was obscured by the umbrellas and cabanas. I prefer the adult serenity pool, since it's just the two of us. It's very relaxing. There is a kids' pool at one side of the hotel and another pool that has a wall around it that you can pay to go into. I didn't look into it because I was perfectly fine at the other pools. There is a great walking trail along the ocean. There is not a beach directly in front of the hotel but there's a beach in front of the hotels on either side of this property, with easy access. You can often see turtles frolicking in the water in front of the hotel. I have been there in March and seen whales way off in the distance. There is plenty of grassy area to sit and watch the sunset. We have not eaten in the hotel restaurant in years because we seem to end up at the Monkey Pod happy hour not too far away or we make our way into Kihei. There is a Starbucks in the hotel, which was perfectly fine for us to grab some coffee and light breakfast. The rooms have the Nespresso machines and they are extremely loud. I feel like we woke up the entire building when my husband used the machine each morning. It's the worst part of the room. Whoever decided to purchase those did not do their homework very well. Over the years that we've stayed at this hotel, I have enjoyed quite a few frozen Mai Tai's at the pool bar. I like their frozen ones better than on the rocks. The staff also is another plus. They have always been welcoming. Overall, this is a great place to stay for a relaxing getaway. Read less

Wonderful time for our mother-daughter trip. The highlight was the Olakino Pool (Adult only relaxation pool) we reserved a Chaise Lounge two of the four days we were there. Gerlie took such great care of my daughter and me both days. It's the best poolside experience I could have hoped for. Also, we loved Rucel our waiter during breakfast, he's so sweet and fun. Everyone on property was wonderful. We went during spring break and the resort didn't feel crowded. Food at the poolside grill was great, especially the poke bowl. This property feels high end and on par with the Four Seasons or the Ritz. You can walk to the shopping plaza next door for restaurants or shopping or take their free shuttle anywhere else nearby. Swimable beaches on either side of the resort. Read less

Fabulous stay as always. This is one of our most favourite properties. Our daughter loves the watersides and we love the location, views and cabanas. Rooms lovely and beds super comfortable and service top notch. The only negative is the food isn’t the greatest but so many other Maui options for amazing meals! Will most definitely be back!

We stayed here in March and I really wished we had gone with our usual (Andaz). When we arrived we checked with the staff on parking and there is a self parking lot where you pay (or you can valet for extra). That's the thing I hated about this resort. Everything was extra, from outings to meals at the resort including ridiculous pool experiences I'll get to later. We stood around until realizing where the front desk check in was. It was very business transactional and we got awkwardly lei'd and some juice. We were shown a map to our room and I highly recommend just getting someone to help with the bags. The grounds are massive and the route they showed us was stairs only and it was such a hassle to bring our luggage there. The view of our room 2120 was amazing and we had a bit of very rocky beach access. A turtle would beach itself every so often and tourists would come out standing super close and terrorizing the animal while their kids screamed at it. Our beach access was for viewing only, not getting in on account of the giant rocks. Staff came by the drop off some macarons and a bottle of champagne which was nice. I refused to eat at the overpriced restaurants on the grounds so can't comment but the restaurants at the shopping center in walking distance were great. The good I did like how walkable this resort is as there's a walking trail right out side our room which connects to two beaches. However that also means you have zero privacy but it's great if you like to people watch. Several weddings and events were hosted just outside our door so it got loud at times. We checked out the water slide and the kids pool seemed really fun if you're traveling with kids. The not so good The resort fee includes things we never got to take advantage of such as beach chairs and umbrellas because people are out claiming spots at 7a. Movie shown in movie night were kids movies only. The pools were incredibly overcrowded. They offer an exclusive pool option where you pay $300/chair in a private pool and they bring you snacks but I recommend looking up reviews for that experience because it just looked like a money grab. On our second to last day we chose to book a snorkel and kayak tour which was amazing but I want to mention the concierge lady asked for a tip. For what exactly I don't know. It just felt tasteless. The only staff I had a great experience with was housekeeping. They were always very thorough and friendly. The yoga and boot camp classes were also nice. The drinks ie cocktails were all very watered down. They give you two drink vouchers and when you go to redeem them expect them to be extremely sweet with almost no alcohol. I paid $40 for an hour of paddle boarding and felt this should have been included in my resort fee. The room The room itself was very generic and beds were uncomfortable. Showers took awhile to heat up. They have a small fridge and a coffee machine in room but otherwise pretty bare. The soaps are low quality and left an itchy residue for both my partner and I. They have water dispenser near the pools and lobby fyi. Overall I'm sure this resort is what you make of it but I didn't very much enjoy my stay compared to other resorts I've stayed at on Maui. And the prices you pay are not commenserate with the experience at all. Read less
