The hotel

This recently renovated hotel sits directly on a wide stretch of beach in the quiet, pretty resort of Wailea and is ideal for both families and couples. Kids will get a kick out of their own pool with its two water slides, while adults can kick back and sunbathe by their own pool, or relax in the hot tub. There's a Mandara Spa with a range of pampering treatments, or you can explore the surrounding countryside on foot along several hiking and nature trails. A fantastic resort and spa right on Wailea beach. Newly refurbished, spacious, and immaculate landscaping. There are a number of pools that cater for families, kids, adults only and mixed. The onsite restaurants are brilliant with a convenience store on site.

This is a detailed review, but hopefully helpful to anyone looking to book. I will start with the cons and finish with the pros. Cons: 1. Service with the bell boys. When we first arrived, nobody helped us with our luggage. When we checked in, nobody asked if we needed help with our luggage. We didn't mind since we travel light with two medium sized luggages. We didn't realize and nobody told us that elevator service was NOT available for all floors. Elevator service was only available for floors 4-6 and we were on the second floor. When we aimlessly walked around the 4th floor trying to figure out how to get to our room, a male staff offered to show us to our rooms, which required taking our luggage down two floors. My husband and I each had a luggage and the entire time this male staff did not offer to help us with our luggage, but watched as I awkwardly lugged my luggage down the stairs. We were not the only ones. We saw a grandma and her granddaughter check in one day with 3-4 massive luggages outside opening their door and it looked like they lugged it there themselves since I didn't see any bell boy with them. I can't imagine they opted to carry all that luggage themselves, at least not if they were properly informed that they didn't have elevator service to our floor. We did find out on our last day that there is a backdoor way to get to the bottom floors without stairs, would've been nice if someone had told us earlier 2. Service at the front desk is mixed. We are Marriott Gold and would be offered an upgrade if available. When we got there, they didn't offer us one. When we asked, we were told they didn't have any upgrades available for our stay. A quick search on their website revealed plenty of available rooms during our exact stay. She brushed us off. Meanwhile, later on in the day, I hear them upgrading other people left and right. When we inquired about it the next day with someone else, we shown a few available room (so they were available), but those rooms were worse than the one we had. If they had upgraded us on the first day, maybe we would've gotten better rooms. It's fine, but then someone called us on our last day to tell us they were moving us; when we went to front desk to ask and gave them our room number, they already assigned a different guest to the room while our belongings were still in the room. I don't know why it took them 5 days to get us a room change we asked for day 1 and why they think we would care to move on our last night 3. The hotel does have lounge chairs on the beach, but unfortunately, no beach food or beverage service. This is not different to other hotels so not really a negative, but an FYI 4. Food at the resort overall is mediocre and mixed. Food at the pool sourced from Kapa Bar and Grill was average. However, Humble Market (with exception of one potentially dangerous mishap - see my review on that) and the food truck were good. However, you are close enough to other properties and there is a shuttle that takes you around the area that you can eat elsewhere. 5. Pool service at the adult pool was slow. Takes about half an hour to get your drinks. They only have 2 people serving 50-70 people. The servers, Terry and John were amazing, but could use more help. The adult pool also gets busy early. By 9am, it is packed. People also hog these chairs for hours by leaving a hat or sunblock and even though they say it's a 30 minute hold policy, I don't see the towel people enforce this. I honestly don't know what the towel people do. I rarely see them. Some poolside employees seem disgruntled and hate their jobs 6. No turn down service, which is surprising so if you go back to your room to shower for dinner, you will come back your room the way you left it - not the "come home to a clean room kind of relaxing feeling" Pros: 1. The footprint of Wailea Beach Resort is larger (at least it feels larger) than other neighboring luxury hotels, but with fewer rooms. Other resorts are built up and the pools / limited lawn space feels very crowded and tight - overflown with pool lounges. This contrasts with Wailea Beach Resort where it feels spacious with grass and lawn areas galore. It just feels more like a resort than others. The grounds here are really beautiful and just barely resemble the Four Seasons at Hualalai - barely. You can sit by the grass and enjoy the sound of the waves or the colors of the sunset - really relaxing 2. They had different pools, a kids adventure pool, a family pool, and an adult pool. There are definitely a variety of options to choose from. Unlike other resorts, pools here are spacious and don't feel as crowded. Love their adult infinity pool 3. Wailea Beach Resort was recently renovated so it's more modern and sleek. Again I contrast this with neighboring resorts (with the exception of the Andaz, which is even more modern and sleek) 4. Because it is located literally next to other luxury resorts connected with a pleasant pathway along the beach, you are able to easily venture over to other hotels and enjoy their dining options. This pathway is safe and a beautiful stroll 5. Service with a few staff members. My husband hurt his ankle surfing. When we got back to the hotel, a hotel manage (maybe) saw my husband icing his ankle in the hotel lobby and called the security guard, Mike. Mike came immediately and ace bandaged his ankle and offered to help in any way he can. This is the attention and care that all staff should, but unfortunately, don't possess. The staff who helped us correct the room change on our last night was also very helpful and apologetic of the mistake 6. Value - given the nicer property (in my opinion) and if service is not a huge deal, this property is definitely the better value of the other resorts around Read less

We stayed in the main tower, which was a bit noisy, but we didn't spend much time in our rooms. The pools were all fantastic, and the ocean is right there too. We could snorkel off a nearby beach, and saw sea turtles, a reef shark and tons of fish. Our only disappointment was that it did not appear that there was any way to recycle plastic, cans or bottles there. Everything went into the general trash. Although the ubiquitous plastic cups looked recyclable or compostable, we saw no separate containers for recycling and we would hesitate to stay there in the future for this reason. Read less

We live on Maui, but the island is larger than you might think and every so often we love to visit another part of the island for a "staycation". We thought heading to Wailea would be perfect for a few days and we chose the Wailea Beach Resort and could not have been happier. The arrival experience is so nice with the fresh lei and welcome drinks and lobby is beautiful, with sweeping ocean views and a beautiful banyan tree with an ALOHA marquee that is great for photos. The rooms are well-appointed with modern amenities. We sprang for an ocean view room in Hale 4, overlooking the resort's infinity pool and the ocean. For dinner we ate at the pool bar, Kapa, and got our complimentary welcome mai tais. I am always a little hesitant about drinks that are labeled as complimentary because the quality is usually terrible, but these were amazing. So delicious and well-crafted with fresh garnishes. For dessert, the resort actually had s'mores down by the fire pit overlooking an epic sunset! The next day, we woke up and had our in-room Nespresso coffee and then it was pool time. We loved the variety of pools the resort has. The serenity pool is adult only and perfect for relaxation. There is also an adventure pool and since we have a one year old girl, we opted to get a cabana there to have shade and also plenty of room for my daughter to crawl around. Don't make the mistake of thinking this pool is just a kids pool....they have two water slides that are huge for a hotel and top notch. We (as in the adults in our 30s) must have went down each water slide 15-20X! The covered slide is so fast...your body turns into a torpedo! We also ate poolside and I highly recommend the shrimp scampi rice and the "Mo Bettah" tots and poutine. And in addition to hanging out by the pool, we played cornhole, Connect Four, and the resort also has an awesome game room. Overall, we left so happy with going to Wailea Beach Resort for our stay-cay. Great service with the spirit of aloha, beautiful facilities, awesome location, great food and drink, and tons to do made for a perfect stay. Read less
