Mont Rochelle

Franschhoek, Winelands

The hotel

In the style of a private manor house, the property dates back to 1668 but today offers discerning guests the ultimate in luxury. Effortlessly combining elegance with modern comfort, it also boasts a glorious location. Set against a backdrop of the Klein Dassenberg Mountains, no matter what window you’re standing at, the views are breathtaking! As well as a swimming pool to lounge by, there’s a wellness centre and a gym. Alternatively, explore your surrounds by bicycle or on horseback. Set in the wine region, food and drink is, of course, vitally important. Miko offers fine dining in every aspect with each and every dish a work of art. Country Kitchen is more relaxed, perfect for an al fresco lunch or cosy starlit dinner. Before you decide which wine to drink with your meal, visit the tasting room, there’s a huge variety on offer, many from the Mont Rochelle vineyard itself.

We spent a weekend at Mont Rochelle. This place is the kind of place that requires more than a weekend so we will definitely be back. Amazing hospitality from the entire team - our suite was a very special place. Highly recommended One can get very lazy, be spoilt, eat great food & sleep in luxury in this place.

Our second visit to this splendid establishment, as good as the first one, if not better. For those planning to stay in the near future, be assured that all Covid protocols are strictly enforced. We stayed in a most comfortable room, well appointed with a patio opening out onto a lawn with breathtaking views over Franschhoek to the mountain range beyond. The patio was fringed with in full bloom jasmine; most pleasant smells. The estate manager, James Basson is a consummate professional with an eye for every comfort and need for his clients. Peter Karanja and his staff are making sure that these very high standards are fulfilled, are most welcoming and helpful. The breakfast is very good, we missed the buffet which is temporarily unavailable due to Covid restrictions. Complimentary wine, nibbles and mini bar are a nice touch. Wine tasting in the Country Kitchen most enjoyable with knowledgeable staff. The shuttle bus a great plus which makes visits to the town, especially at night, so much easier. Most delightful stay which I would love to repeat one day. Read less

Since COVID travelling has been a fear for many of us, but Mont Rochelle quickly puts you at ease. All hygiene protocols are carefully followed and incorporated by the team and guests. Overall a much-needed break away from the "new normal" was needed, and I found a little slice of heaven in Mont Rochelle. Read less

We stayed two nights in a Cabernet room with lovely views. The staff were welcoming and helpful. It's a very comfortable and relaxing hotel. The breakfasts were very good and we enjoyed a good dinner on the Saturday night. Wines in South Africa are very good and the cellar here is excellent.
