Mont Rochelle

Franschhoek, Winelands

The hotel

In the style of a private manor house, the property dates back to 1668 but today offers discerning guests the ultimate in luxury. Effortlessly combining elegance with modern comfort, it also boasts a glorious location. Set against a backdrop of the Klein Dassenberg Mountains, no matter what window you’re standing at, the views are breathtaking! As well as a swimming pool to lounge by, there’s a wellness centre and a gym. Alternatively, explore your surrounds by bicycle or on horseback. Set in the wine region, food and drink is, of course, vitally important. Miko offers fine dining in every aspect with each and every dish a work of art. Country Kitchen is more relaxed, perfect for an al fresco lunch or cosy starlit dinner. Before you decide which wine to drink with your meal, visit the tasting room, there’s a huge variety on offer, many from the Mont Rochelle vineyard itself.

Mont Rochelle is owned by Richard Branson and like all his properties it is subtly superb. It has magnificent views of the surrounding Franschhoek mountains, a grass tennis court and a swimming pool. We had really good wine tasting on the patio adjacent to their restaurant “The Country Kitchen “.

Mont Rochelle was a very pleasant place to stop for a wine tasting and cheese and charcuterie platter for lunch. It was really enjoyable to sit outside with a view of the distant mountains. Great service.

We were lucky enough to be upgraded to a suite in this gorgeous boutique hotel on a wine estate overlooking Franschhoek with spectacular views in every direction. From the original Cape farmhouse, the hotel has evolved into a first class luxury property with every modern amenity while retaining a relaxed elegance and unstuffy style that makes you feel instantly at home. Everywhere has a feeling of space. Service is personal and nothing is too much trouble for the staff, who greet you like a long lost friend. Rooms are light and spacious and beds are huge. We slept dreamlessly each night. Would return in an instant. Read less
