Mont Rochelle

Franschhoek, Winelands

The hotel

In the style of a private manor house, the property dates back to 1668 but today offers discerning guests the ultimate in luxury. Effortlessly combining elegance with modern comfort, it also boasts a glorious location. Set against a backdrop of the Klein Dassenberg Mountains, no matter what window you’re standing at, the views are breathtaking! As well as a swimming pool to lounge by, there’s a wellness centre and a gym. Alternatively, explore your surrounds by bicycle or on horseback. Set in the wine region, food and drink is, of course, vitally important. Miko offers fine dining in every aspect with each and every dish a work of art. Country Kitchen is more relaxed, perfect for an al fresco lunch or cosy starlit dinner. Before you decide which wine to drink with your meal, visit the tasting room, there’s a huge variety on offer, many from the Mont Rochelle vineyard itself.

Set looking over the town and with sweeping views all around it’s hard to beat the location . The valley and mountains around are stunning and vineyards on the lower slopes just make it even greener . The hotel is a thatched manor with a contemporary light feel that extends to the rooms .Our Shiraz double room was spacious with a lovely modern bathroom and balcony overlooking the valley and front gardens . The king size bed was extremely comfortable with luxurious sheets and pillows . Complimentary wine , minibar and nibbles are a nice extra. The hotel has its own vineyard making quality wines and each stay has a complimentary tasting which we took over at Kitchen restaurant next to winery and combined with lunch - choices of light and more filling bistro style food , salads and sharing platters . As with most South African food it’s very good value for the location . The hotel’s main restaurant serves very accomplished and tasty gourmet style food as well as fresh breakfasts from the buffet and kitchen . The bar is cosy and has is open to the lovely gardens . A decent sized pool with bar has plenty of comfortable sun beds and also overlooks gardens and the mountains beyond . A good week equipped gym is useful if it’s too hot to walk or or exercise outdoors . Getting to town is around. 15 minute walk or easy on the free hotel shuttle ( who will take you to any of the excellent local restaurants. Staff are numerous , friendly and attentive This is a wonderful hotel in a lovely part of the world Read less

...and it's called Mont Rochelle. Lovely hotel which goes beyond expectations in any ways, from views, pool area, restaurant, and very personal wine tasting! Not to forget about the perfect massages we got in the spa. Very friendly personal, and two cute cats! Worth every penny!

We had already done wine tastings elsewhere that day so did not get to take advantage of the wine tastings here. Our room was beautiful, spacious and had a magnificent view. We were able to get be driven into town to have dinner and picked up afterwards. Hope we get to come back here another time and stay longer. Read less
