Mont Rochelle

Franschhoek, Winelands

The hotel

In the style of a private manor house, the property dates back to 1668 but today offers discerning guests the ultimate in luxury. Effortlessly combining elegance with modern comfort, it also boasts a glorious location. Set against a backdrop of the Klein Dassenberg Mountains, no matter what window you’re standing at, the views are breathtaking! As well as a swimming pool to lounge by, there’s a wellness centre and a gym. Alternatively, explore your surrounds by bicycle or on horseback. Set in the wine region, food and drink is, of course, vitally important. Miko offers fine dining in every aspect with each and every dish a work of art. Country Kitchen is more relaxed, perfect for an al fresco lunch or cosy starlit dinner. Before you decide which wine to drink with your meal, visit the tasting room, there’s a huge variety on offer, many from the Mont Rochelle vineyard itself.

We popped in here for a wine tasting and we were not disappointed. All wines were delicious and the cheese was soooo good. I definitely recommend having some snack to the wine otherwise your gonna get pretty tipsy.

I’ll start by saying we aren’t wine people, we don’t even drink alcohol, but when my parents and other family members decided to join us on this trip to South Africa, having been to their sister property in the Sabi Sand, I decided to try Mont Rochelle and boy did it not disappoint. I must say it even went a notch up from their sister property in terms of service! The property is just beautiful and they were so kind to upgrade us to the nicest rooms we could have imagined. Peter took wonderful care of us and James, the manager, was always there overseeing everything and helping everyone. We absolutely loved our stay and hope to be back some day in the near future.
