Lovely hotel/location but there were elements that let it down for an expensive 5 star hotel. The room was lovely but the table top in the dressing room was very chipped and damaged. The floors in the corridors were really dirty when we arrived and were still the same when we left 4 days later. The food was very expensive (£85 per head for the buffet) and there were no other options offering a light meal or room service in the evenings. Wasn’t as good in terms of service, cleanliness and design as the Lux Grand Gaube which we visited earlier in our trip (and was less expensive). Staff were generally excellent and helpful and they helped us sort out an additional night when our flight was delayed overnight which we really appreciated. Read less

A perfect place to get away from it all. Service everywhere in this resort was above and beyond. The beach is amazing. Half board was helpful, breakfast was varied. For dinner we had a few options. Some restaurants had live music and dancing. The rooms are a good size and clean. I didn't want the trip to end!

As a family trip this resort offered more than we expected. The highlight for me personally was the kids as well as teens club from morning to evening. The food, rooms, very attentive staff...perfect!

The hotel is eden, as simple as that. We spent a week for our honeymoon and there’s no other hotel in Mauritius that can compete with the package at the One and Only. The location is pristine. The property is stunning, with white sand beaches that stretch forever. The renovation of the hotel makes the place feel grand yet modern. The service and staff are so welcoming and personal, they recognize you by name and constantly make sure you’re in total comfort and peace. The food is incredible. We were in Paris before Mauritius and some of the food at the hotel was better than in nice restaurants in Paris. Definitely do the half board option and expect that each day you’ll spend extra on food/drink supplements. The extras aren’t expensive though and half board saves you a bunch. This is a far cry from Maldives or South Pacific islands where you’re constantly signing bills and racking up huge charges all day for food and drink. The rooms and amenities are incredible. We stayed in an ocean front room and it was huge. I recommend staying in an ocean front room on the quiet side of the hotel (170 block or rooms closer to Villa One) as the area is away from the amenities and you have a quiet beach outside your terrace. The pools are gorgeous and even more beautiful than in the photos. The spa is first class with so many offerings. The prices are standard for a 5 star hotel. Concierge and front desk took care of any requests and did so promptly. Anytime we asked for something, whether big or small, they dropped everything and handled our request as if we were the only guests in the hotel. Middle to end of September is the perfect time to visit, especially if looking for a quiet trip. The weather is about 80 degrees and sunny all day. Since it’s tropical there are random, short showers (usually late afternoon and overnight). Very few Americans travel to Mauritius because it’s at least 20 hours to fly, with a stopover, and we noticed that at the resort as most of the crowd is European or middle eastern, and older. Some families but not that many until October when the British/South African schools are off on holiday. Not a ton of honeymooners either. In terms of the whole package, the One and Only is easily one of the best places to honeymoon in the world! Read less
