Shangri-La Hotel, Singapore is an elegant, beautifully furnished hotel right in the centre of Singapore, within easy walking distance of the bustling Orchard Road and its many shops and entertainment venues. Hotel information

792 rooms spread over 3 distinctive wings. All with air-conditioning, satellite TV, tea/coffee maker, mini-bar*, complimentary WiFi, safe, iron and board and hairdryer. The Tower Wing has recently undergone a makeover and proudly displays a new lobby and refreshed guest rooms including the new Themed Family Suites. Tower Wing Deluxe Rooms with either city or a pool views through floor-to-ceiling windows and 1 king-size bed, sleeping maximum 2 adults. These rooms include breakfast.

Half Board/Full Board options: include breakfast, lunch and/or dinner in The Line restaurant.

We stayed five nights at the Garden Wing city facing room 777, which is a fabulous and quiet room. The room is furnished with double glazed windows which serve as a very good sound proofing from the road noise and a nearby piling activity. Overall, we have a great five-night stay with my toddler enjoying every bit of it. However, there were misses as well. To sum it up: Five star or more: 1. Room quality and ambience 2. Housekeeping - kudo to the housekeeping lady, the room was cleaned and tidied immaculately everyday with coffee pods replenished without fail. 3. Splash - what a wonderful staff, they really enjoy their jobs and this is reflected in their attitudes and friendliness 4. Buds - Superb, clean and staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Always with a smile. 5 Main pool - superb staff and life guards. Friendly and professional. 6. Rose Veranda, Origin Grill - the food was just simply tasty and tantalising to the max. We will definitely return. 7 Birthday set up - this was done perfectly with spot on timing!! Four stars 1 Front desk - all staff is generally friendly and helpful. However a call to the service desk asking for an extension of stay have me waited on the line for more than five minutes. In addition they promised to send the invoice 15-20 minutes after I checked out but it never arrived in my inbox until I reminded them in the evening. 2. Concierge - generally are friendly and helpful but on some occasions could feel a little bit cold especially when asked for parking vouchers 4. Gym - generally in good state but not the most modern though. 5 The Line - friendly staff but food was OK Three star Lobby Lounge - ambience was superb. We hosted our friends during our stay. However staff attitude is not consistent. They were short of staff at times. On the check out day, we were rushed through with our breakfast order with cold attitude. Waitress finished taking order without even asking me and she took the order literally two minutes after handing us the big menu! At most other times, we waited for the baby chair and I ended up ferrying one myself after seeing my toddler stood there for ages. Overall I would give a 4.8 if I could, not perfect but it was a memorable one. Read less

There were so many things wrong with our staycation at the Shangri-la: ๐Ÿ˜’: We were greeted with hostility at the entrance. ๐Ÿ˜ง: During check-in, there was a long queue at 3pm. The staff allowed the family behind my friend who had come a little later than me to cut the queue by guiding them to the next available counter although she had arrived before them. Overall the check-in was slow (she ended up checking in at 4pm and arrived at the room a little later.) ๐Ÿ˜ฑ: I was greeted by a 1st strand of hair upon entering the room. It was seen on the counter in which the luggage bag is usually perched. The second time round, I found an eyelash on the plate in which the napkin containing the cutlery was placed. The third and most horrifying encounter was when a human hair was found in the breakfast omelette. The latter two incidents of spotting human hair prompted me to launch a complaint. However, it seemed like the in-dining manager who turned up at our room did not seem very surprised or shocked that not only an error was made on their part but the service was clearly of sub-standard (not to mention how all this reflects on the poor hygiene standards of the hotel). He seemed also not to know how to handle the situation apart from promising to send us two plates of freshly cooked omelette!!! ๐Ÿ˜ : The in-dining manager, however, was patient and polite, and I did not want to leave a negative review until I discovered the high tea set presented to us on checking-out as part of "service recovery" (essentially an attempt to salvage the hotel's reputation) failed miserably on my arriving home (the set contained meat (to be exact pork) when they clearly knew we are on a plant-based diet!!) This is unforgivable, insincere and disappointing. In fact, I had ordered their signature mee goreng and specifically told them to make it vegetarian. (The crew should have known this especially since we had also ordered a plant-based breakfast for that morning and a high tea menu the day before.) ๐Ÿ˜Š: That said, I must emphasise that the crew at the swimming pool were lovely as they were helpful, friendly and attentive. The manager at the Waterfall Ristorante Italiano restaurant was also very kind and helpful and we are thankful for them. Overall, I have to say that the service was sloppy. The garden area of the property appeared to be poorly maintained (there were no roses nor hibiscus flowers -- the latter grows so easily in tropical Singapore, I might add). The room looks a little tired and the building on the outside looks lifeless. Instead of a 5-star hotel, the hotel had the feeling of a family chalet. As for now, I feel it was not worth paying over $400 for a night at the room with the pool view. A short stay in MBS or the Fullerton might have been a better option for the money spent. Read less

it was our 1st staycation at Shangri-la Singapore and the experience was simply awesome! Smooth check in and service staff were very friendly! many activities for the kids. They loved it and enjoyed the stay! will come back again.
