Parker Palm Springs

Palm Springs, USA

The hotel

Cheeky yet civilised, Parker Palm Springs lives up to its belief ‘you are only young once… but you can be immature forever’ by throwing in witty twists to desert living. After all, who said a desert-bound hotel couldn’t have a yacht club? (To be fair PSYC’s actually more ‘American country club’, with tennis, spa, and 24-hour fitness zones). The Parker’s inexplicably lush gardens host highbrow petanque and croquet, while its three pools include a 24-hour adult only pool, its rooms promise WiFi, and its dining spans Norma’s diner-style comfort food, Mini Bar’s sharing boards, and the seductively indulgent bistro, Mister Parker’s. And it’s all near downtown Palm Springs and El Paseo Drive, with local attractions including Moorten Botanical Garden and Cactarium, the Rimrock and Canyon Plaza shopping centres, the convention centre, and Knott’s Soak City Palm Springs.

I had been here many times before for brunch and dinner prior to our stay. Their two on-site restaurants (Mr. Parker & Norma’s) are probably the biggest reason I recommend staying here. I didn’t get to enjoy the pool on this trip but would stay again to check it out. Read less

The public areas such as the lounge area, 2 swimming pools and a small 6 seater bar counter were great. The rooms were well designed and with ample space. Bathrooms are due for a renovation as are a bit dated and def not upscale. I have a couple of rubs here which prevent a 5 star rating. This is our second time here and both times trying to get a drink in the lobby area seating area took forever. And I mean forever. There was one person working both times which clearly is insufficient. They miss out on so much business. We watched this group of 8 waiting to get a drink for 20-30 minutes. They kept turning their heads trying to flag her down. Enough is enough and they left. The other thing is coffee in the morning. When you pay what you do to stay here there should be a complimentary coffee stand outside the restaurant where you can get your coffee and be on your way. Nope. Need to go in to the restaurant area and they clip you $6 for a cup of coffee! I hate nickel and diming when you are already paying top dollar. Customer service besides the lounge area was top notch. Very friendly, courteous and helpful. Read less

Our room and the service were not up to par and certainly did not meet “5- star hotel” expectations. While I understand this is the busy season, I do believe it is the hotel property’s obligation to hire sufficient staff and to properly train them. Given the price per night (~$650+ resort fees and tax), I do not believe we got the experience we paid for. While the food at Norma’s was very good, I cannot justify what we paid for our room. The Kimpton Rowan has far better service and much better pricing. Read less

Decor was amazing and when we had a craving for dessert, Tim at Mister Parker’s restaurant in the hotel was incredibly helpful, and though busy tending to other patrons, he graciously helped us out and let us know that we would be able to sit and order drinks and desserts while sitting in the beautiful lobby area. We enjoyed our evening - many thanks to Tim!! We will gladly come back again! Read less
