I have to start off my review by saying WOW!!! I mean seriously just wow. From the moment we stepped in we were kindly and warmly welcomed by the valet and receptionist. The receptionist was on point and already knew who we were as we arrived. We were offered champagne and congratulated on our 3 year anniversary. Very attentive to detail as that was one of the comments I made in my reservation process. Our room was beyond gorgeous, rustic, romantic and intimate. We even had a letter congratulating us once again on our anniversary and a complimentary bottle of wine. I also loved the view of the ocean from our little bench. Truly heaven on earth. Not only in our room but through the grounds the views are breathtaking. I loved not having reception and being able to really disconnect and enjoy the beauty of everything. Reading some of these negative reviews reminds me of how entitled people can be. Seriously don’t listen to them because this place is just beyond amazing !!! Lastly I really wanted to comment once more on the staff. There was such a lovely energy to them. Everyone was always happy to help out. Everyone loved to make conversation and remember details about you. I want to especially thank Michael from the reception for getting to know us and sharing stories about your life, we really felt at home because of you ! Hopefully we will see you again next year. This is one of the most difficult reviews that I have ever written. It is complex, and can’t be covered in a few words. I grew up in Santa Cruz CA , and had heard of Post Ranch forever. I never stayed there because I heard that it was so expensive. I decided to splurge and see what it is like. Bottom line is that the pluses and minus are about equal, resulting in a neutral review. To help you calibrate, I have never written less than a 5-star review. I will have to say that, if this were half the price that it is, it would be a 5-star. But something this expensive , needs to be held to a higher standard. We were in the Brown Unit, which is a Peak House. First of all, the value proposition is absurd. I paid $2,348 ($ 1,174 per person) for one night. There are only 39 units on 98 acres. If more units were built, I believe that the price would plummet, based on supply and demand. A light room-service dinner for 2 was $ 155.00. I will sort of stream-of-conscious my remarks. The various comments are not in any particular order. There are no instructions for the Nespresso , which is fairly unique to operate . There is no way to fill the wash basin in the bathroom– (i.e. there is no stopper) , so you have to let the water run while you are shaving, in California,a state that desperately needs to conserve water. The door on the fire place was very difficult to lock. I made the reservation personally with 3 calls-and still it was fouled up - with a mountain view unit , instead of the ocean view which I had requested and was assured of. When I checked in , the guy at the front desk said that he could give me a “real deal” on an ocean-view unit (extortion) for $3,800. Room service was very uneven, sometimes very fast , to waiting for over 30 minutes for a simple request. There are beautiful infinity hot tubs, but no air jets which can be very relaxing. Breakfast (included) is a good ,but not great , buffet including made-to-order omelets and house-made bagels , but no waffles or cereal. The outside door to the unit locks automatically behind you , so you are out of luck if you forget the key. The fruit in the room was dry and not fresh. The complimentary mini bar is great and includes wine, beer, soft drinks, etc. The surroundings are very tranquil and relaxing. There are a number of activities including yoga, nature hikes, and stargazing with a telescope. The staff is exceptionally friendly and helpful. Kudos to Crosby, Stephen, Umberto and Jorge. Many employees have very long tenure with Post Ranch. There is no TV in the room, which was fine with me, but another person might want to watch a major sports event . A GIGANTIC irritant is that you cannot have a guest to breakfast , even if you are willing to pay the $30-$40. We had a friend who drove half-way from Carmel , and we had to waive her off. At first we were told that she could join us if we paid $ 30- $ 40 , so we told her to come ahead. A quick follow-up phone call soon thereafter said, “not under any circumstances “, so we had to waive her off. The units are fairly small studios , with the bed right in the middle of the living room, ie no separate bedroom. The bathroom is wide open – no lock on the swinging doors, there is no enclosure for the toilet (a single hinged board blocks the view from one direction. ) The view is wide open in front and on the left . The bed is right in the middle of the living room, so that if one person wants to go to bed early and the other wants to read or have a glass of wine by the fireplace, the other person is potentially disturbed by light, noise etc. I am somewhat amazed that there is a large enough market to support the rates at Post Ranch and keep it in existence. I am glad I experienced Post Ranch , but it is way overpriced , and I have no need to go back. Read less

What lets it down is the mediocre service eg. erratic hours for housekeeping and not recalling our names from the moment after we checked in with the lovely receptionist. Awkward, below par and not worth the price paid. Against a competitive set of properties, stay somewhere else that cares enough about you to at least remember your name. Read less
