Wyndham New Orleans French Quarter

New Orleans, Louisiana

The hotel

Most come to New Orleans for the exuberance and elegance of the French Quarter, and this hotel places you right in the thick of it. Just blocks from Bourbon Street, it’s also your way into The Big Easy’s other lures: gumbo, jazz and blues, Mississippi steamboat sounds, even Mardi Gras if you time things right, fill surrounding streets. But Wyndham New Orleans French Quarter is more than its prime Royal Street address. Inside you’re treated to the French Quarter’s only indoor pool, a terracotta-tiled sanctuary with views of both the adjoining hotel gym and New Orleans itself. Downstairs, Deuce McAllister’s Ole Saint Kitchen & Tap serves southern dishes like BBQ shrimp, local and regional craft beers, and Louisiana-inspired cocktails, with both the restaurant and sports lounge infused in Deep South hospitality.

My first impression of the AC hotel was very good. The lobby area was well light and clean, the desk agent was polite and very professional. i was welcomed as a member of the Marriott brand. The rooms were small but well maintained. the elevator walls were spotted with some kind of liquid and was still there upon checkout the next day.

The good news...its clean, modern, hotel staff was friendly and the bartender was soooo first class! He really knew his stuff The tapas were good for a snack - many choices. The good news...its clean, modern, hotel staff was friendly and the bartender was soooo first class! He really knew his stuff The tapas were good for a snack - many choices. Now the shocks - To begin with was the self-parking. It was awful. You had to park from the 6th to 8th floor and the turns were so tight it was scary at times! Very steep going and coming! Also - get this! - the elevator didn't work part of the time! Seriously! They said they have been "working on it". It was so bad that although we wanted to go back out one night to a place uptown, we stayed in the area. Wasn't worth the risk of that elevator and deal with the too steep ramps. Kinda ruined our last evening.Oh, need to add, you have to go OUTSIDE and walk around the corner to the hotel! Did not always feel safe. Next shock - the front desk. When we checked in the nice friendly lady said, "Oh, I will get you a really nice room!" She kept fumbling on the computer like she was getting something great for us! As guess we got a little too excited and when we open the door, it was just their average standard room. It would have been better if she had said nothing! make it worse, our hotel looked right on to the shabby parking garage which was an arm throws distance! Not only could we not see out, we couldn't see the sky! Very claustaphobic! Finally, the room had NO drawers to unpack! Not even one in the night stand! The hanging rack was less than 12 inches unless you wanted to hang something over the safe for half the space! How infuriating! Did the designer ever try to stay in these rooms for more than a night??! My friend lived out of her suitcase and I stacked my clothes along the bench. How AWFUL that was! I like modern but this was ridiculous! Even cruises give you places to unpack! The location was good. Carondelet becomes Bourbon after Canal so you are just minutes away from the French Quarter. A lot of things are nearby including a CVS store should you need anything. I've stayed in Marriott brands for years and I couldn't believe this one between the parking and the room with no place to unpack. If it was better in those two things, it would have been a nice hotel. However, there's lots of better accommodating places so I won't be choosing this next time (I come 1-2 times a year). Read less

The location of this hotel is very good if you want to be close to the French Quarter but don't want the excessive noise and crowds of the French Quarter. The parking lot is a pretty hairy experience if your chose to park yourself. The hotel is clean but the responsiveness of the cleaning crew is sub-par.

The hotel was amazing and modern. Although small the people and staff made the atmosphere. Perfect for short stays or business visits. Cannot thank the staff and Stephanie from the front desk for their welcoming smiles and helpfulness towards all the smallest things. The hotel is not far from the night scene and is convenient being near Bourbon street. We enjoyed our stay there and would definitely come back. Only feedback would be to ask beforehand what time house keeping is as we kept missing it due to staying out too late and waking up too late the next day and sleeping through or we would come back to the room in the afternoon and once settled in be asked for house keeping. Bit of an inconvenience but the house keepers were nice enough to provide us with the stuff we requested to be replaced. Read less
