The Beach Club

Antigua, Caribbean

The hotel

Situated upon a beautiful stretch of beach, you’ll be treated especially well by the friendly, helpful staff at The Beach Club. The rooms are spacious, overlook the beach and out to sea and the bath tub on ground floor rooms only is perfect for a romantic soak for two. You’ve got two beaches to choose from, one on the calm bay side, where you can also try your hand at a wide range of free non-motorised water sports and the other benefiting from refreshing ocean breezes to cool you as you soak up the rays. Coco’s Restaurant has an airy, spacious feel and overlooks the beach, serving an excellent all day menu. Its bar is the perfect spot to seek some shade during the day or enjoy a relaxing pre-dinner drink as the sun goes down. Children are in their element here as the kids’ club (currently closed) is great fun — parents will appreciate the break to enjoy a game of tennis or perhaps pump some iron in the fitness centre. Obviously, lounging around the pool terrace at Coco’s, drinking a coconut crush is another option, especially if topping up your tan is high on your holiday ‘to do’ list!

The staff were fabulous, food choices great , each restaurant fab in different ways . A 10/10 to the 24 hour coffee and cake facility , a great way to start the day. I def recommend a trip to Sting Ray city , swimming with the sting rays was amazing , and also going to laviscon island to see the tortoises was a lovely experience . I think we were lucky to go when the resort was not at full capacity , as the beaches and restaurants were not to busy , and our apartment block was quiet , but saying that , something for everyone , and a much needed break in a perfect location . An ideal peninsula for the Atlantic , watching the wonderful pelicans on one side, and swimming in a sheltered bay on the other . Drinks provided on both beaches , with regular delivery service . All in all a wonderful family break in a beautiful area Read less

Having arrived on the Sunday, I started to feel ill on Thursday with a badly upset stomach. I tried self medication (Imodium usually does the trick) but by Monday there was no improvement. I thought I had better report it, as maybe it was food poisoning and others were suffering. I was 'interviewed' by the Duty Manager, who took a statement, then he asked me to make a statement, then I was interviewed again by Security, who also made a statement - not quite an interrogation, but certainly not much sympathy. They asked me if I'd like to see a doctor - at my expense - but I declined, but when the symptoms had not abated two days later I did call a doctor, who visited, diagnosed Gastro Enteritis and gave me antibiotics and salts to replace the ones I'd lost. The bill was $250US, which resolved the problem but as the course lasted until the day before my departure it meant that I could barely take advantage of the all inclusive resort. On my return to the UK I contacted the resort with my complaint, and was promised a reply within 48 hours - five days later, at the end of November, I received an apology for the late reply and promised one would be received on letter headed paper - six weeks later that response is yet to be received. Was it food poisoning? I cannot be certain, but the buffet style food distribution, with food open to the elements cannot help, but a I say, I cannot be certain. What does rankle is the lack of sympathy at the time, the lack of contact from staff whilst I was at the resort, and the abysmal service since returning, most unprofessional. I would not return to this resort under any circumstances, truly awful. Read less

We stayed at the Villa Shamrock (rented through VRBO) during Christmas. It is the best spot in the resort. It’s located near one end of the property so it’s quiet and low key with an EXCELLENT beach right out your front door. This comfortable villa has two bedrooms, a fantastic deck and second patio area overlooking the water, and is beautiful and clean. Unless you are on the all-inclusive plan, the food at the St. James Club restaurants is expensive and it’s not that great. A bowl of soup is $18, a cheeseburger is $28, dinner buffet for an adult is $80, $40 for a child. There are many great restaurants within five miles of the resort or you can cook in the villa. We had an excellent dinner at la Brasserie d’Antigua. Getting a rental car at the airport made it easy to get around the island. Be prepared for roads that are not in the best of shape, but with a speed limit of 40mph they are doable. Antigua itself is a beautiful island and the people are hardworking and very nice. Getting our covid test for travel back to the US was easy to do right there at the resort. I’m ready to go back tomorrow! Read less

The only issue we had was a miscommunication when it came to scheduling for our covid test to come back and we ended up having to in pay cash due to the time it was done instead of it being billed to our card. We do understand that there will be additional charges but it should better communicateed. Overall, the island is so beautiful and I will definitely go back. Read less
