Kimpton Marlowe Hotel

Boston, USA

The hotel

Offering stunning views of the Boston skyline in a beautiful riverside setting, the Kimpton Marlowe Hotel prides itself on personalised service and exceptional accommodation. There's a whole host of things to see and do in the immediate area but the hotel offers a state-of-the-art fitness centre as well as the highly regarded Bambara Restaurant and Bar. A great place to relax, admire river views as you recline in deep-cushioned booths and feast on American brasserie-style cuisine. There's an emphasis on seafood dishes, accompanied, of course, by some very fine wines. Across the street from the hotel are unpaved trails, ideal for jogging, walking, biking and skating - the hotel offers complimentary bikes so grab one and explore. How about the setting, does the water tempt you? If so, there are also kayaks for complimentary use if you fancy paddling your way downstream. Spacious guest rooms are idea for larger groups and families are very well catered for with welcome packs for the kids.

We have been to Boston and Cambridge on many occasions, and had been to the CambridgeSide Galleria before so the area was not unfamiliar, but this was our first stay at the Kimpton Marlowe. Our purpose for being in the area was a family wedding, and its location was close to the venue, so this was a great location. But, I'd argue it's a stellar location for any family visit - it's minutes from the Science Museum, steps from the CambridgeSide Galleria (with restaurants and a food court) and close to a park along an extension of the Charles. It's a 10 minute walk to the Lechmere Subway Station (built in 1922) and while it needs a refurbishment that apparently is going to happen this year (at night it's a tad sketchy to walk from the subway to the hotel, so alternate transportation might be better after dark). We had friendly and smooth check-in and check out, appreciated the daily afternoon wine/beverage and appetizers served, and the room was comfortable. There is in-room coffee, we had a Charles River view (well a corner of the river anyway), the wireless was stable, the room clean, the bathroom well appointed and the beds were very comfortable. There is a bar in the hotel, where food service also takes place; we had brunch and lunch during our stay and the service was very good and the food tasty. The hotel offers kayaks and bikes for guests, although we couldn't avail ourselves of them, but others in our family group did. A very good place to stay! Read less

Our group thoroughly enjoyed our second stay at the Kimpton Marlowe. We felt safe and well cared for from beginning until end. Lauren Hendy was our coordinator and I highly recommend her for her service acumen.

My only drawbacks from this stay versus other Kimpton properties are a bit frilly but, hey, that's what you should expect with boutique hotels. 1) I was not offered a beverage of any sort at check-in. Others handed me bottles of water and beers. 2) The fitness facility is not in service. While they did have passes on hand for a local athletic club a five-minute walk away, that is not the same as having the luxury to walk out of your room in sports tank and shorts to get your sweating in. Especially when it's freezing temps out. Read less

This was our first time in Boston and we chose the Kimpton Marlowe as we are members of IHG and wanted a fairly luxurious hotel for a short city break. The location of the Marlowe is excellent, just on the banks of the Charles River and an easy, 30 minute walk to Boston with all the sites of Cambridge, including MIT and Harvard an easy walk in the other direction. The service throughout our stay was first class and we loved the free coffee in the morning and the wine hour in the evening, even though we essentially paid for it with our $25 a night ‘amenity fee’! Our room was very nice with a big comfortable bed and the breakfast in the mornings was delicious - great poached eggs. The hotel is currently being refurbished so no fitness room was available on site. The public spaces are very welcoming with a lounge to sit in to drink your wine in the evening - just don’t go into the bar with it as you’re not allowed to sit at a table in the bar in the evening if you’re not ordering food, which is fair enough when they’re busy. Overall this was a lovely first stay in Boston/Cambridge for us and we hope to come back - and stay at the Kimpton Marlowe again! Read less
