Kimpton Marlowe Hotel

Boston, USA

The hotel

Offering stunning views of the Boston skyline in a beautiful riverside setting, the Kimpton Marlowe Hotel prides itself on personalised service and exceptional accommodation. There's a whole host of things to see and do in the immediate area but the hotel offers a state-of-the-art fitness centre as well as the highly regarded Bambara Restaurant and Bar. A great place to relax, admire river views as you recline in deep-cushioned booths and feast on American brasserie-style cuisine. There's an emphasis on seafood dishes, accompanied, of course, by some very fine wines. Across the street from the hotel are unpaved trails, ideal for jogging, walking, biking and skating - the hotel offers complimentary bikes so grab one and explore. How about the setting, does the water tempt you? If so, there are also kayaks for complimentary use if you fancy paddling your way downstream. Spacious guest rooms are idea for larger groups and families are very well catered for with welcome packs for the kids.

Marlowe is attached to the massive CambridgeSide shopping mall, so plenty of parking, with an elevator directly into the hotel (US$30/night discounted self-park, with in/out privileges). The hotel is quite new and facilities are in excellent shape. I had late dinners on-site at Bambara Kitchen, and the food selection was unique and delicious. Also, I liked the ability to ChromeCast from my iPad to the TV screen. Only thing keeping it from a perfect rating was lack of Keurig or Nespresso in-room coffee-maker. Read less

This was my second stay at the Kimpton Marlowe, so that should tell you something. Very pet-friendly, with no additional fee. There is a resort fee, like pretty much every other place in the area, but part of it goes to a credit at the restaurant, so it is definitely comes out a bit lower than most. Daily complimentary wine hour each evening is a nice touch, and the staff were all very helpful. I really appreciate the self-park option in the attached garage, a rarity in the area. Aside from being cheaper than valet, it means I can come and go on my own schedule without needing to prearrange it. Decent-sized mall is right next door, accessible by direct passage. Some very good restaurants in the area are within easy walking distance. The Museum of Science is just around the corner as well. If you do bring a pet, there is a park immediately beside the hotel, another walking area with grass along the Charles River a short block away, and even more green space a North Point Park, about two blocks away. Free loaner bikes, if that's your thing. Read less

Brought our golden doodle and kids to celebrate a birthday, walked to see the Celtics at TD Garden, took a stroll along the riverside in the AM and had a delicious brunch, all from a very comfortable room with a great view. Staff was charming and treated us very well. Would definitely stay here again.

Parking would have been expensive but since we stayed on the weekend, parked for free across the street (on Cambridge Parkway). Starbucks in mall behind the hotel along with Cheesecake factory. Felt safe walking around at night. Able to use the stairs (up and down) instead of elevator with no hassles. Room rate plus amenities fee still lower than other hotels in the area. Used the $10 food and beverage credit both days. Rooms were quite nice with nice views. Only (minor) complaint is lack of convenience store open late in the area. Would definitely use this hotel again. Read less
Image of the Tripadvisor rating Hidden cost of “amenity” charges

The hotel is conveniently located next to a shopping mall. But what surprised me was the daily “amenity” fee of $25 which appeared on the bill when we checked out. It wasn’t mentioned when we booked and we would have appreciated the transparency from the beginning, so that we could have considered other nearby hotels with real comparable prices.
