This was our first stay in a Kimpton and we were pleasantly surprised. The room was a bit cramped, which is probably the norm in Boston, but clean and up to date. The bed was comfortable and the hotel seemed relatively quiet. Could have used a coffee maker in the room, but coffee was available in the lobby each morning. Just not as convenient.… Read more

I was pleasantly surprised by this Kimpton. Smaller than the ones I’m use to but their service still impeccable. The first room we received was next door to a barking dog but as soon as we mentioned the inconvenience we were moved within minutes. The rest of our stay was relaxing and adventurous. My husband and I stayed at this hotel on July 19, 2019. We were in Boston for sightseeing and dining. The hotel is in a location near North Station, and since we arrived by train, we thought this spot would be convenient. Big mistake!! The hotel is across the street from a bar. Starting around midnight, a line of already intoxicated, rowdy, yelling bar patrons starting gathering, covering the entire block. They were waiting to be admitted to the bar. This went on until 2AM when, I assume, the bar closed. Then, they started coming out, yelling, fighting, screaming - AT 2 AM!!! There was some kind of brawl going on at the top of Portland Street that security (from the bar?) was trying to break up. All of this went on under my window! It went on until 3 AM. The next morning I mentioned the noise to the front desk clerk, and he said that it goes on almost every night, not just Fridays. The room was clean, I will say that, but tiny. No place to put anything in the bathroom. The decor has been updated, but it's like putting lipstick on a pig. Not much you can do with an old hotel like this. The lobby area is tiny, made even smaller by a bar they have squeezed into the space. To add insult to injury, I discovered that they added a $23 "amenities fee" to my hotel bill. I called this morning to determine what this was for, and it was for use of the "facilities" , WiFi, etc. FYI - NOBODY charges for WiFi !! Rip OFF! I guess the "amenities fee" was the fee for not getting any sleep! Read less

The reception area was small but the staff here were friendly and helpful. Our room was adequate and bathroom was well stocked.but for me the decor was awful black red and grey and was well worn. Almost depressing as the room was not light and airy either. Complimentary tea and coffee was served in the reception area early morning which was either cold or the jugs were empty. Apart from reception staff the others we encountered were not the most approachable when asking for anything like a tea refill. Food was very average and expensive. Better quality could be found in the takeaways along the streets close by. There was very little seating in the reception area unless you sat in the eating area which did not lend itself to relaxing. The hotel is well situated for walking to places of interest and there is an underground station and convenience store just round the corner. The street can be very noisy when there are Ice Hockey matches, concerts etc as the venue is just at the top of the road. Whilst not the best hotel we have stayed in it was clean and served its purpose. If we were to visit Boston again would we stay here I don't think so.. Read less

Key doesn't work for many times, room not cleaned at 5.30pm, safe out of order, people not really helpful, expensive but well situated. Boston is a great city but not in this hotel. Never again. There are a lot of other possibility
