The beach is so close to resort you could reach out and touch it and the ocean was warm and sandy bottom. The buffet was not huge but the food was delicious. There was always fresh fish on the menu and chicken and some sort of meat. The grill at the beach served incredible wraps, fries and ice cream and was delightful. Rooms were nice and cleaning service was great. Very relaxed vibe at this hotel and if you get a chance to go before it closes, I would book it. Hotel is walking distance to shops. Cristal at front desk went above and beyond every day to help people. I had to go to public clinic for medical issue and Cristal helped me to get it sorted out and the Doctor at clinic was great and the wait was about 2 hours so very impressed with the healthcare on the island. We had an excursion cancelled by vendor last minute and Cristal also helped us book a private tour. She is a gem. Hotel was not busy which was a bonus. All in all we had a great holiday at this beautiful location. Read less

Christal was amazing at check in! She was incredibly sweet and everything went smoothly! Our room - while dated - is very clean! We have enough towels, 2 double beds, as requested, and Christal even followed up with a phone call to the room to ensure our room was good! We grabbed a quick bite to eat at the buffet, which has a nice variety, and we are now enjoying a drink at the rooftop patio bar! It's going be a great week! Read less

She was quick, and attended to our room. She always had a smile for you. The front desk clerk Christal was so accommodating and knew anything about the hotel. She was clear, concise and knew everyone’s name when they came to the front desk. I would stay here again in a heartbeat. It’s so sad that it will be closed on 30 April. Thank you starfish for being an amazing place to stay and made our holiday the best stay ever!! I will be back to Saint Lucia. Read less

I just came back from the Starfish and had an amazing time! This was one of the best vacations I’ve had in a long time, and so I felt compelled to write a review. This hotel is so quaint and so much charm and character! It is an older style hotel, but it has that quintessential Caribbean vibe. It’s small enough to feel cozy. The rooms were clean and safe. No significant complaints. I had an amazing view of the ocean. The beach is right on site and it is phenomenal! I think this section of the beach is nicer than the sections in front of the other, more expensive hotels down the strip, including the Sandals resort. The breakfast and lunch at the outside beach grill were good and you won't go hungry. The Rodney Bay Area is very safe and welcoming to tourists. It is nearby to walk to local restaurants and fairly inexpensive to get local food if you get bored with the hotel food. The staff were friendly and helpful. The only comment here is that they were sometimes short-staffed because some staff were leaving for other jobs given the upcoming closure. I also met a wonderful group of new friends while staying at the Starfish. Overall, I had a fantastic vacation that I will always remember and treasure! If you have realistic expectations and are not expecting a 5 star experience, I think you will love the Starfish. I would go back if the Starfish if it were still going to be there. I feel sad that it is closing. I wish it weren't. I hope that all the staff find new jobs. Thanks again for the memories Starfish! ️ Read less

My adult son and I were due to stay at the Starfish last week, as we’d booked this vacation through Air Canada Vacations. This was our first vacation in over 10 years! We have never been to St Lucia before. After a 3 hour shuttle transfer from the airport to Rodney Bay, we arrived. It was late in the evening. After check in we requested some assistance with our baggage. The bellboy was an elderly man who immediately made a point of sharing with us, without any shame, how he didn’t expect a tip from us, because everyone says they’ll tip and they never do, and then they blank him the next day. This moaning from him continued all the way across the hotel and up to the third floor where our room was. He then decided to announce to us, as he opened the hotel room door, that we would probably complain about the room, as everyone staying at the Starfish complains about the rooms! I’m a lady in my 50s and my son is 24, we were literally stunned into silence. Well, he wasn’t kidding. The room was awful. We already made a point of emailing ahead to Starfish reservations to request two double beds instead of one king-size bed, because we are a mother and son travelling. My email was acknowledged by Starfish reservations. So you can imagine my horror and the embarrassment that was faced us when they’d deliberately gave us a room with a one bed. The room was mediocre at best. The decor was decades out of date and tired looking. The room was also small, and not in any way the “deluxe” that we had been led to believe when we booked it. The bathroom was also extremely small with cracked walls, old paint, and one towel. The room door was an effort to close and lock, and everything oozed shabbiness. The photos offered on the website are extremely misleading. The hotel is not like how it appears! My son and I returned to reception to raise our concerns that at the very least we needed either a second room, or an upgrade, or even a portable cot for my son to sleep on because we couldn’t share the same bed. Reception couldn’t have been more disinterested if they tried. They didn’t want to help us. They had no interest in wanting to help us, and on top of that were pretty darn rude. My son even said if they could find some spare pillows and blankets, he’d make himself a bed on the floor, naturally I was concerned about this because it was a tiled floor. Well the woman in reception at the time, who claimed to not be the manager and therefore couldn’t make any decisions, said it was against the rules to allow anyone to sleep on the floor. So we asked about a roll out bed, to which she literally left the reception and walked off and hid in the back room. We finally spoke with a manager, well a man came out from the back office, but who is was I’ll never know, as he was belligerent and not going to help us resolve this situation either! We decided to take a breath rethink the situation considering it was late in the evening and we had travelled 15 hours to get to this hotel! So we went to grab a bit of dinner from the buffet. There are no words. Every tray I opened had scrapings of food left, with the only tray (with anything half edible) was oven chips. The salad buffet was awful. There were other guests queueing up behind us in the line to the buffet, with children, who didn’t know what to say to their poor little kids because there was literally nothing to eat!! No waiters came over to ask us if we wanted a drink, not even a glass of water. At that point my son and I decided to leave the hotel. We checked out. We even asked if they could help us find somewhere else for the night, but they didn’t want to know. They didn’t care! I’ve never never in all my years of travelling encountered staff so grossly rude and unhelpful. DO NOT go to this hotel you will regret it. We tried to reach out to Air Canada Vacations for help, which was extremely difficult because it was getting very late at night. Under the circumstances my husband, who was back home in Canada, intervened. He contacted the Starfish hotel reception and tried to figure out a way forward. But they were equally as unhelpful to him! So out of desperation my husband organised for us to stay at a different hotel in Rodney Bay, (which actually turned out to be a wonderful resort). We were literally defrauded by Starfish reservations out of a very large sum of money, led to believe that we’d have a twin bedded room, that would be habitable, and that we would have food and drinks. Well it’s a lie! The reception staff seemed to take pleasure in seeing our dilemma. They’re a disgrace, and don’t care because they are closing down. What is important to know, is that we were NOT the only ones complaining. At the same time there were two other ladies from Canada who had travelled down on the same flight as us, who were also in an identical situation, and who equally received very unhelpful treatment from the hotel reception, being left to share the same bed when they were just friends. In addition to that, there was a British lady literally pleading with the woman behind reception for some towels for her children because they still only had one towel for the last two days, and given up on housekeeping! The taxi driver who came and rescued us and took us to the other hotel, spoke his mind to ask about the woman on reception, saying that she was notorious for being hostile and having issues! Starfish truly is a dreadful hotel. If you are due to go there, I would strongly recommend that you either cancel your trip, or get your to booking company to move you to an alternative hotel. The only reason I haven’t got photos to add to this review is because my camera bag was packed up in my luggage, plus i was exhausted and very upset and quite frankly felt intimidated by the hostile staff.
