Starfish St Lucia Resort

St Lucia, Caribbean

The hotel

The glossy greens of the hills and infinite blues of the sky, sea, and pool are paired with splashes of sunny yellow around the ocean-facing pool at Starfish St Lucia Resort – and the result’s the very picture of a tropical Caribbean escape. It spots everything you'd want from the Caribbean too. Sitting along the the famous Reduit Beach, it's just a stroll from all the fun and buzz of Rodney Bay, with its marina, mall, night clubs, bars and restaurant and from the spa at its sister hotel. Of course, with its all inclusive promise, you might not even leave your beachside base. Dining and drinking stretches from the bountiful buffet to the tantalising Italian ‘ristorante’, daytime beach grill, and swim-up bar. And little guests haven’t been forgotten either, with their Rexplorers kids’ club and babysitting promising them fun while you enjoy a spot of snorkelling or beach cricket.

This was our first visit to the Caribbean and after a long transfer from the airport, were greeted by 'welcome to the Starfish' and handed a refreshing cocktail. Brilliant. Reception was very efficient. Food good (it seems a problem wherever we've had buffets that the food isnt always hot enough and alas it was the same here) and tasty, good variety. The 2 al a carte restaurants were excellent. Freshly cooked eggs at breakfast was a bonus. As Brits we love our fish and chips and the Starfish version was delicious. I certainly felt woozy after a couple of cocktails. Even when busy the drinks were delivered quickly. The staff were on the whole friendly and professional. The pool would benefit from a deep end but if you want a swim the beach is a few feet away. Our room 211 was ideal facing the sea and gardens. Spacious and very clean. The lady who cleaned the room was lovely (wore glasses). The only letdown was the bathroom, the bath and tiles were pretty manky although the shower was fine and the toilet needed replacing. If the rumours are true that the resort will be demolished and rebuilt then I guess there isnt much point doing too much to it. Saying that though it certainly didn't spoil our stay and would definitely recommend this hotel. Saw other more swish hotels in the area but the Starfish is in an enviable position on the best part of the beach and close to shops and bars. Read less

Having read some very negative reviews prior to going, i wasn't sure what to expect. We were pleasantly surprised to find that the reviews we read were obviously written by people expecting a 5 star experience for less than a 5 star price. First off I want to commend the staff...I dont know which staff these reviewers found rude and not customer service oriented but they clearly did not stay at the same resort we did!! The staff are amazing and bend over backwards to meet your needs. Our check in and out was smooth and handled with above average efficiency. The rooms, while needing an update, were clean and comfortable. For the length of time you are really in your room, that is all that matters to us. The grounds are well kept and fastidiously maintained. Even the ground crew is friendly and smile as you walk past. The food was more than adequate and tasty. There were certainly enough buffet options that you could find something to eat. If you couldnt, again your expectations were way too high. It was nice to have the makings for fresh salad at all meals, yes even breakfast if you so desired. Albert makes phenomenal omelettes!!! The beach grill had a very tasty menu for lunch. We tried the Italian restaurant and again, were not disappointed. Excellent service at the bars and the drinks were not weak, as one reviewer commented. The beach is well maintained, with plenty of chairs and umbrellas. The one day we spent at the pool we could not find an umbrella because we came off the beach late morning, so a suggestion would be to have more umbrellas at the pool. Towels were in great supply and you could change them out during the day if needed, which i have never seen at any other resort . To sum up, this was an excellent resort for the money. With some upgrades and refurbishing you will have a definite 4/4.5* based. We thoroughly enjoyed our trip to St. Lucia. Read less

When I read the reviews on the Starfish, I was quite worried about going there, but I needn’t have been. Most of the bad reviews were probably written by people who paid for a 3* resort and were cross that they didn’t get 5*. We found it clean and comfortable, with very helpful, friendly staff and perfectly satisfactory food. The beach is lovely; snorkelling off the beach OK but we didn’t see anything spectacular. We thought the Water Sports team rather let the place down – lackadaisical and with poor equipment. The pool is big and clean with a most enjoyable swim-up bar. Most of the time there is only one bar open, but the site isn’t big enough for that to be a problem. The hotel is very well situated a few minutes’ walk from shops and restaurants in Rodney Bay. It is easy and fun to get a local bus into Castries (1$ US), an attractive little town with a great market and very surprising Cathedral. The Must Do trip is the catamaran to Soufriere and mud baths. It was a brilliant day out. Also don’t miss the Friday street party at Gros Islet. We went early and found it very lively and totally safe. We can’t say what it’s like after midnight. The hotel runs a bus to this, but we took a local bus; it’s only about a mile from the hotel. The hotel is at the other end of the island from the airport (about 1 ½ hours). We used the Island Man Taxi Services and found them excellent and reliable. Read less

We stayed at the Starfish St. Lucia from Jan 4 - Jan 11, 2020. We chose the hotel mainly because of the location (bucket list!) and the price (it fit the budget). I understood immediately that the Starfish is a 3 Star hotel, but after combing through tons of reviews I felt confident that it would be a good place for us! It’s a 3 star: they do not have room service or drink service on the beach. Food options, entertainment and room amenities are limited. Knowing what hotel ratings mean before you stay is important as it helps with expectations. The stars should not impact cleanliness or customer service. This hotel was very clean and the staff extremely pleasant and helpful. It’s a long drive; we opted for a private transfer; it was worth it😊 We stayed during a very busy time; I believe the hotel was near/at full capacity. This meant line-ups at the pool bar, not a lot of choices for lounge chairs etc. The buffet had a limited selection, but the food was very good. Italian was delicious, ate there twice and had no problems getting reservations. Nightly entertainment; very enjoyable if not a little short. Hotel is in the centre of Rodney’s Bay. A quick little stroll to malls, grocery store, banks etc. In the evening, the clubs start playing music around 8pm and run until 2am. If noise is an issue for you, I would not recommend the standard rooms, they are located closest to the street. Even the Gardenview rooms would still be a little noisy; the Seaview rooms are your best bet as they’re located closest to the beach/farthest from the street. We were in room 424; beachfront and it was awesome! A little noise at night but not too bad. Krystal at the front desk, Omany in the dining room and Nicholas and Nikita in entertainment stood out to us but all the staff were kind, friendly and helpful. Treat people as you wish to be treated; enough said. Starfish St. Lucia was exactly what we expected. Perfect, beachfront location. Good food, good service. St. Lucia is an amazing country and I’m thrilled we had the opportunity to visit it!! Was the Starfish fancy? No. Bells and whistles? Not a one. If you’re looking to be pampered and waited on, entertained and fed from morning until night, and that’s fine if you are, do not book this hotel. If a clean hotel with good food and service in an amazing destination is what you’re after…pack your bags, the Starfish is the place for you! Read less
