Starfish St Lucia Resort

St Lucia, Caribbean

The hotel

The glossy greens of the hills and infinite blues of the sky, sea, and pool are paired with splashes of sunny yellow around the ocean-facing pool at Starfish St Lucia Resort – and the result’s the very picture of a tropical Caribbean escape. It spots everything you'd want from the Caribbean too. Sitting along the the famous Reduit Beach, it's just a stroll from all the fun and buzz of Rodney Bay, with its marina, mall, night clubs, bars and restaurant and from the spa at its sister hotel. Of course, with its all inclusive promise, you might not even leave your beachside base. Dining and drinking stretches from the bountiful buffet to the tantalising Italian ‘ristorante’, daytime beach grill, and swim-up bar. And little guests haven’t been forgotten either, with their Rexplorers kids’ club and babysitting promising them fun while you enjoy a spot of snorkelling or beach cricket.

Location excellent. Buildings rather tired looking, needs some t.l.c.. but kept clean. Staff friendly. Restaurant choice fairly limited, but okay although food could have been hotter. It was worth paying for the sea view.

It has the most beautiful beach right outside, lovely and clean as is the sea. Yes rooms are tired, nothing fancy and the restaurant in the evening was not great so we ate at the beach side restaurant/ bar where they prepared the food for you from a choice of maybe 10 things , which is open until 6 pm and went into the restaurant for a salad and dessert if we fancied one. As many people have mentioned, it was a difficult time due to the Coronavirus. However, the location of the Starfish is great, the gardens are beautifully kept and the gardeners were always friendly. We had a sea view room which was lovely as you could hear the waves crashing on the beach. The rooms are a little dated and tired but are kept very clean. The rooms could do with a few little ‘extras’ ie tissues, magnifying mirror for the ladies and robes although I appreciate it is only a 3 star hotel. The food was a bit hit and miss (mostly miss probably due to the Coronavirus). Breakfast was good, lunch in the Beach front bar/grill was very good and the staff were friendly although there were never any wraps and the hot dogs were off the menu sometimes. Dinner in the evening was bland, boring and repetitive. Most of the staff were friendly but some (particularly the women in the restaurant and pool bar) were grumpy and unfriendly and quite often did not even acknowledge guest requests. Again, this may have been due to the problems in the hotel. If you ask for anything in your room to be fixed, expect to wait around 2-3 days. Despite several requests and promises by the staff, I waited 3 days for our safe to be fixed and all it required was some new batteries! I found that extremely frustrating. The beach is beautiful. The pool is nice although the whole pool is the same depth, around 41 inches! The first few days of our holiday, when the hotel was busy, there were no sun beds available around the pool, many were empty with towels and personal belongings on them (the usual trait of people putting their towels out first thing!) and there were not enough umbrellas. When the hotel emptied out a bit they were plentiful. The same applied to the beach. By the end of the holiday we had become accustomed to the hotel and really enjoyed it. I would like to return when everything is back to normal. Read less

I think anyone reading reviews written in March 2020 should be mindful that Coronavirus had just arrived on the island (via a tourist) and the hotel had guests in quarantine. Some of the staff left, which is understandable as health care isn’t free on the island. Those staff who remained worked extremely hard to keep guests fed and happy, particularly the manager who worked tirelessly. The location of the Starfish is fantastic, right on a lovely clean sandy beach. The food was plentiful and varied, particularly at the beginning of our stay before there were staff shortages. The hotel itself was a bit dated, but it was very clean and had a charm and character of its own, unlike a modern high rise block. The gardens were beautifully kept by knowledgable gardeners. We’d love to return in better circumstances. Read less
