The Watergate Hotel

Washington DC, USA

The hotel

The Watergate Hotel has been making headlines since its 1965 launch. Back then it was because of its trailblazing curving architecture, which mimicked the bordering Potomac River and riled the DC conservatives. Then it was for the legendary 1972 Watergate scandal – you can even tour the notorious Room 214 today (if it’s not occupied). But today it’s for its luxury, with musts like free WiFi and bike hire eclipsed by the Argentta Spa’s sleek pool; Kingbird’s fine American dining; The Next Whisky Bar’s amber nectar and matching décor; the summer rooftop bar’s 360 degree skyline views, and its Foggy Bottom location, 10 minutes’ stroll from Georgetown and 1.4 miles from The White House.

My husband and I booked a suite overlooking the Potomac River and it did not disappoint! Our suite was very well appointed down to the heated seat on the self-flushing toilet! Great stay and perfect location to take in a performance at the Kennedy Center. Would definitely recommend.

Exceptional for my preferences and I am picky! Views were spectacular from the corner unit. Unit was very clean! Breakfast buffet was very good! Welcoming was excellent! Convenience to the area, Mall, White House and Georgetown was perfect.

The hotel is nice, but bathroom has no fans, vans the parking prices are a SCAM. And snacks were like $10/piece. Reasonable prices don't exist here. I understand what a premium experience is, but charging over $50/day for parking??? Common. That's absurd

The hotel was comfortable with nice welcoming staff and a nice ambience. The surrounding area is quiet and pleasant and it's around a 10 minute walk to the subway from where it is easy to visit all the main attractions in DC

I stayed here for work, so all the stay details were booked by the company I was working for in DC. Check-in was friendly, and I was given a welcome packet from the job along with my room key and check-in info. Awaiting in my room, was a lovely array of fruit and snacks, nicely displayed and fresh, along with a personalized letter welcoming me from the hotel's event's coordinator, which was a lovely touch, especially after an early train down from NYC. The room itself was very modern, despite the retro styling of the exterior of the building itself, and nicely updated with a few mid-century feeling pieces that tie the whole aesthetic together. The curve of the building means the exterior wall of the room is also curved, which gives the room an interesting shape, adding tho the uniqueness of this storied hotel. The bed was comfortable and the views of the back courtyard and the wrap-around rest of the building were lovely. The bathroom was marble and very sleek, with a nice array of products, and a lighted makeup mirror, which is always a plus for me. The hotel, famous for its presidential scandal, definitely has a sense of humor about its history; all the stationary and key cards have 'no need to break in' written on them, and the pens and pencils that are stocked in the room are engraved with 'I stole this from the Watergate Hotel' which of course means you must.
