The Watergate Hotel

Washington DC, USA

The hotel

The Watergate Hotel has been making headlines since its 1965 launch. Back then it was because of its trailblazing curving architecture, which mimicked the bordering Potomac River and riled the DC conservatives. Then it was for the legendary 1972 Watergate scandal – you can even tour the notorious Room 214 today (if it’s not occupied). But today it’s for its luxury, with musts like free WiFi and bike hire eclipsed by the Argentta Spa’s sleek pool; Kingbird’s fine American dining; The Next Whisky Bar’s amber nectar and matching décor; the summer rooftop bar’s 360 degree skyline views, and its Foggy Bottom location, 10 minutes’ stroll from Georgetown and 1.4 miles from The White House.

Local couple excited to experience the legendary Watergate Hotel. Overall it was just okay. The age of the property shows in the details. We arrived after checkin time but had to wait a bit for the room. The rooms are not well appointed. The bathroom products were underwhelming. The pool and hot tube haven’t been cleaned in a while, evidenced by the 7 inches of green muck around the wall edges. For the price we paid I was expecting an experience similar to that of the Intercontinental or Four Seasons. Read less

This was my 2nd stay @ the Watergate within the past 2 months. It was nice the staff remembered me & was able to accommodate my room preference. It's a very peaceful area with a lot of history to explore. Even though am HBO miniseries was filming there, I didn't find it hectic at all. It's a very peaceful area with a lot of history to explore. Even though am HBO miniseries was filming there, I didn't find it hectic at all. It's my top choice for accommodations in the DC area & I've stayed at The Intercontinental @ the Wharf, The W (Hotel Washington), The Willard, The Ritz Carlton & a few others. It's nice having room service, a cvs on site & grounds to walk around. Big plus is it being only 2 blocks from my daughter's GWU dorm which is beyond convenient. Thank you to this great establishment. Looking forward to my next visit 😊 View from my balcony ~ Read less

my wife and I were able to get away for the weekend and had a lovely stay at the Watergate. The hotel is great, staff is friendly, loved the Whiskey bar. The location is PERFECT - just outside of the noisy/touristy area, but not so far that you can't walk or ride to everything. Super close to that nice waterfront trail - use any of the bikeshare/scooter rental services and you can see it all with ease. Didn't hurt that the weather was perfect, in the low to mid 70s the entire time! Read less

I recently stayed at the watergate for a friends wedding. The staff was friendly, accommodating and attentive. I was especially impressed by attendants who greeted us on our arrival. You could tell they were smiling under their masks.
