The Watergate Hotel

Washington DC, USA

The hotel

The Watergate Hotel has been making headlines since its 1965 launch. Back then it was because of its trailblazing curving architecture, which mimicked the bordering Potomac River and riled the DC conservatives. Then it was for the legendary 1972 Watergate scandal – you can even tour the notorious Room 214 today (if it’s not occupied). But today it’s for its luxury, with musts like free WiFi and bike hire eclipsed by the Argentta Spa’s sleek pool; Kingbird’s fine American dining; The Next Whisky Bar’s amber nectar and matching décor; the summer rooftop bar’s 360 degree skyline views, and its Foggy Bottom location, 10 minutes’ stroll from Georgetown and 1.4 miles from The White House.

went to D.C. to participate in an impeachment protest and thought it would be appropriate to stay at the Watergate Hotel. What a great hotel! The space is beautiful. Management upgraded me to a room with a view of the Potomac, and the room was quiet and comfortable.

The watergate hotel is within walking distance of a lot of DC attractions (~1 mile away from the National Mall and surrounding museums). The bar on site makes great cocktails, the food at the restaurant was tasty, and room service was timely and also delicious.

Excellent location, superb river view rooms but chilly temperature in Wiskey bar, without staff doing something about it when notified. Just a shame you need to book in advance and not just turn up, and with a deposit, to have a drink in the bubble rooms at the back near the bar. Great facilities Would recommend.

Loved the Watergate hotel. They really played up the history of the place with "I stole this pencil from the Watergate Hotel" pencils for example. The interior of the hotel is gorgeous and filled with Italian furnishings. The staff was extremely helpful and the rooms were luxurious between the linens and the Nespresso machines. We thought we made a good choice booking a room at a “historical” hotel. A big mistake. We were greeted by an unfriendly foreign front desk person. The room was mediocre at best, super outdated and untidy. I can’t believe they call this a 4-5 star hotel?!? Seriously?! So much noise at night , people talking in hallways at 1am. So sad that we… Read more
