The Watergate Hotel

Washington DC, USA

The hotel

The Watergate Hotel has been making headlines since its 1965 launch. Back then it was because of its trailblazing curving architecture, which mimicked the bordering Potomac River and riled the DC conservatives. Then it was for the legendary 1972 Watergate scandal – you can even tour the notorious Room 214 today (if it’s not occupied). But today it’s for its luxury, with musts like free WiFi and bike hire eclipsed by the Argentta Spa’s sleek pool; Kingbird’s fine American dining; The Next Whisky Bar’s amber nectar and matching décor; the summer rooftop bar’s 360 degree skyline views, and its Foggy Bottom location, 10 minutes’ stroll from Georgetown and 1.4 miles from The White House.

I just stayed at the Watergate hotel. Location is within walking distance to the waterfront and that was lovely. The front desk staff were accommodating and friendly. The manager Mathew was incredibly helpful. As there was a member of my group who was very much adoring the red cups in the room and I requested more information on these cups and he… Read more

The manager Mathew was incredibly helpful. As there was a member of my group who was very much adoring the red cups in the room and I requested more information on these cups and he graciously assisted me in acquiring some. This of course delighted the members of my group. I truly appreciate him going out of his way. Rooms were comfortable, Bed was very comfortable. Pillows were delicious. A great stay Read less

Aarti Butani & Vivian Lacroix along with the entire Watergate staff provided the most attentive, thoughtful service which made our wedding at the Watergate phenomenal! The accommodations are exemplary! Rooms are high tech and amazing!

While staying at the Watergate Hotel for a wedding, Yab gave us a fabulous tour of the Scandal Room 214 where the break-in took place 50 years ago on Jun 17, 1972. If you have the time during your stay, ask the concierge for a tour! Better yet, ask for Yab!

Image of the Tripadvisor rating Disappointing in every sense and they charge fees and lie to you.

They charge fees after checkout that are not in your final folio. They also do t answer the phone and won’t answer emails to fix problems. Not to mention some of the rooms need repair desperately. Our room had no working A/C despite maintenance coming three times to fix it, the sink, and the toilet. The rooms are akin to a holiday inn if you… Read more

Our room had no working A/C despite maintenance coming three times to fix it, the sink, and the toilet. The rooms are akin to a holiday inn if you aren’t upgraded. The hotel is nice, service is decent, but this is no 5-star hotel. Maybe 3.5 at best. Read less
