This is a budget hotel so I'm trying not to be too harsh. Located in the hells kitchen area of NYC and a few blocks away from times square/Broadway so location is decent. 48th and 50th street both nearby and both have subway stops. The hotel itself was tired and in need of some upgrading. The bedrooms were serviceable but everything was faded, chipped, peeling, run-down and just generally sad looking. There is a pool but it was closed when I tried to visit. Wifi costs a whopping 9.95 for one day, and we were charged a dollar to store our luggage on check out day. Other guests were smoking weed in the rooms. The lift felt like a death trap and the door jammed continuously on floor 2. As I said it's a budget hotel, but it only felt like one step up from a hostel to me. In fact, I've stayed in nicer hostels. Read less

The positive is the Hotel is within easy walking distance of the Metro, Times Square and Central park and two stores across the road serve good breakfasts (take out only) and reasonable supply of goods. (You will need this as room service charges like a bull). The negatives. Walking into the room the AC was cranked as hot as it could get. Going… Read more

(You will need this as room service charges like a bull). The negatives. Walking into the room the AC was cranked as hot as it could get. Going straight to the desk there response was rude and inferred I was stupid for reporting the fault. With great reluctance someone was sent away and after an infuriating wait the front desk person said why wasn't i back at the room. I pointed out to her that she had told me to wait at the front desk. She was quite surprised and said oh that' right I did. Turns out the AC was faulty and never really worked during the stay but that was not a concern to the front desk staff. Vermin such as cockroaches abounded in the room and any complaint fell on deaf ears. Now NYC is supposed to be a first class city but this hotel had a charge of $10 a day for internet. Not even third world hotels now charge for internet. Tea and coffee in the room, forget that ! This hotel does not do that but has a room locked away and only available between 6am and 10am. Again even third world hotels don't do this. And the cost of a room was absolutely rude, especially in light of the failings of the management and rooms. So rude sums up the service and accommodation. Read less

We are a group of pals visiting New York for a birthday celebration and booked The Skyline Hotel as part of our package. After then reading some reviews I was a little apprehensive as some reviews not very complimentary. I shouldn’t have been. We had an excellent experience at this hotel Check in friendly and efficient. Being Brits we need our tea. I had emailed the hotel asking if there were kettles. Ask on arrival replied Jan. If there are any available you can have one. We did. And there was. One for each room in fact. And cups ! Brilliant Twin rooms spacious and clean. Bathroom good. Free WiFi in lobby. It’s a comfy space to sit and get in touch with home or even better grab something from the Skyline deli across the street which is fantastic. We met the General Manager a couple of times. He accused us of being Australian but we forgave him. He is busy updating the lobby area. And doing a great job. We were very happy with this hotel. It’s well placed and really have no problems with recommending it. Read less

We had 2 cockroaches in our room but maybe that’s a reflection of New York. The room we were given was so hot when we arrived we couldn’t even stand to stay there for 5 minutes. They came and sorted this out but the air-con was so noisy our entire stay. We were given an adjoining room and could hear our neighbours frequently. Given we forfeited our first night accommodation with no refund due to airline delays I thought we would have been given a nice room for the rest of our stay (3 nights) but no favours given. No internet in rooms and they wanted to charge $10 day which is outrageous in this day and age. Not impressed! Read less
