First, let me say that I would definitely stay here again. The location is amazing with easy walking access to so many interesting areas, shops and restaurants. The staff was excellent and very helpful. We booked a double room (2 beds) because these tend to be bigger and we were not disappointed. The room and bathroom, by any standards, were large with lots of windows overlooking the park. The beds and pillows were very comfy and we both slept well each night. But, there are some downsides... The hotel itself is a bit run down. Some might find it charming...I thought it was in desperate need of some paint and TLC! It is clean but because it's so run down, it doesn't always appear that way. It reminded me very much of small hotels in Europe rather than North America - tiny elevator, very narrow hallways, worn carpeting, peeling paint, etc. The walls were also very thin - we could hear conversations coming from the room next to us and every step taken by the people over us. That being said, the hotels seems to cater to an older clientele so no one was partying late into the night and our sleep was never disturbed. Being so affordable, and well located, I can overlook the faults of the hotel - but, really, these are things that could be quite easily fixed with a fresh coat of paint and some deep cleaning. We have stayed in a number of NYC hotels and this is our favorite. It’s a bit off the beaten path, so you get a more neighborhood feel, which is great. It is conveniently located right next to Washington Square Park, NYU, SOHO, and the Village. The decor is fun. Our. Room was clean, fully stocked, and spacious enough for NYC! We loved it and will definitely stay here on our next NYC trip. Read less

Lovely, quiet, well maintained hotel. Clean, simple, charming with period character. Big comfortable bed. Friendly staff. Well located for visiting downtown, and just steps away from the Washington Arch - as seen at the start of When Harry Met Sally.

Lovely small hotel so convenient to everywhere. Walk out the front door to Washington Square Park. We loved the Art Deco decor and intimacy of the place. Small but had everything we wanted - lush linens, great location, helpful desk and doormen and so close to subway. Our party had moms as well as recent college grads and we all loved it. Great base for getting pretty much anywhere in the city; large room and large bathroom; lots of closet and drawer space; comfortable king bed; great towels: good Keith coffeemaker. I want to convey appreciation for the slightly faded quality of the decor without suggesting that anything needs updating. Current policy is to provide full housekeeping only every third day—would have liked it on a more regular basis. Staff responsive to problems. And wished for an in-house breakfast. Read less
