The William

Midtown, New York

The hotel

A newly opened Brownstone Boutique hotel with a private club feel, offering the very highest standard of comfort. Every floor at the William is a different colour and are perfect for a long or short stay in New York. Although modern, it’s a historic building you’re occupying; this was home to the Williams Club since 1924, a private alumni social club for the prestigious liberal arts school, Williams College. Not to be missed is a visit to The Shakespeare Dining Room, a restaurant that evokes an early 19th century English gentleman’s club atmosphere with rich wood panelling, oak parquet floors and marble fireplace. Located beneath is The Shakespeare Pub, boasting a menu of English pub grub, cask ales and wines. The Raines Law Room is another treat – a speakeasy-type lounge with curtained-off booths, service bells for waiters and an extensive drinks list. A unique base from which to explore, we think The William counts as a sight to see and experience in itself!

A lovely hotel in an excellent location in Manhattan. The rooms are modern and comfortable with toiletries (l'occitaine), and there is a complimentary coffee in the morning as well as tea and coffee in the room. The hotel gives you passes for the gym down the road as well. The Raines Law Rooms cocktail bar is highly rated and was a lovely experience with unusual cocktails on offer. The Shakespeare Pub was also a fab little piece of Britain in NYC. There are excellent places to eat near the hotel including the whole dining concourse at Grand Central as well as some great diners. Broadway and other attractions are nearby - easy to walk to. We got there easily (and for only 7.25 each way) via Air train, then E to Lexington and 53rd and then walked - it's 14 blocks and we managed with luggage, but that's up to you to decide on! Would definitely recommend. Read less

The hotel itself is great. There are some week points, like the size of the bed, the size of the room, the shades that don't stop the light entirely at night, but, other than this, is great. Service, location, staff, everything is as it should be.

The William is one of the best hotel I have stayed at on my travels. The staff are incredibly helpful and friendly. The hotel itself is everything you would want in a city hotel. Just a short walk from everything in the city.

The hotel is ok but I would not stay there again. Pros: . I loved the calmness of the room (the blue in the room helped) and how quiet it was. . They put flip flops in the room for you to use. Cons . They have you check out an hour earlier from most hotels (11am checkout as oppose to 12pm which most hotels do) and I was not even aware of it… Read more

They have you check out an hour earlier from most hotels (11am checkout as oppose to 12pm which most hotels do) and I was not even aware of it until I went to check in and asked if I can do a 1pm chekout. . Area is a bit sketchy at night. . Front desk was very rude. After a long day, it would be nice to have someone who is pleasant. Read less

Booked through Virgin Holidays and was disappointed from the start. We arrived at 8 pm (1 am by our bodies) to be told that no room was reserved for us, after two hours we were finally given a room - no offer of a drink or snack, just made to stand there. The room was small and laid out for single occupation, initially it was clean and adequately equipped. My biggest bug bear with the hotel was the room cleaning, on three out of five occasions we returned to the room after an afternoons sight-seeing to find that the room had not been turned out. Basic service done very badly. Not recommended. Read less
