The William

Midtown, New York

The hotel

A newly opened Brownstone Boutique hotel with a private club feel, offering the very highest standard of comfort. Every floor at the William is a different colour and are perfect for a long or short stay in New York. Although modern, it’s a historic building you’re occupying; this was home to the Williams Club since 1924, a private alumni social club for the prestigious liberal arts school, Williams College. Not to be missed is a visit to The Shakespeare Dining Room, a restaurant that evokes an early 19th century English gentleman’s club atmosphere with rich wood panelling, oak parquet floors and marble fireplace. Located beneath is The Shakespeare Pub, boasting a menu of English pub grub, cask ales and wines. The Raines Law Room is another treat – a speakeasy-type lounge with curtained-off booths, service bells for waiters and an extensive drinks list. A unique base from which to explore, we think The William counts as a sight to see and experience in itself!

Very nice hotel, very modern looking. Rooms are big and refined. Clean and silent. What I didn't like: hotel like this at this price should offer also laundry service, the offer only dry cleaning. There is a room available for self laundry but, if you're here for business you do not have time to make it. There is not a desk for working. There is… Read more

Very friendly and helpful staff. Also a very quiet hotel. I stayed for one night on business and the hotel had a very calm and relaxed feeling about it. The room was perfect. I'd definitely stay here again.

This is a great renovated gem in the middle of Midtown Manhattan. Comfortable and well sized rooms, equipped with everything you need. Unfortunately, customer service in the lobby must be improved - you would expect better communication/ manners for what you are paying on this property.

Great room that was spacious for NYC. The AC was great due to me loving the cold when I sleep. Room had the amenities that exceeded my expectations. The cost of the room was high but that’s what NYC is known for. Great location!

My daughter and I stayed for 4 nights in September. Upon arrival after a 7 hour flight we had to try and lug our full suitcases up the very steep steps to be lost in darkness in the reception area. It’s trying to be an English “country club” but fails. We had a full deluxe room which must have the smallest double bed in the US, room had scuff marks and we couldn’t open the window, the air con appeared to work when it felt like it. I did ask for a room with 2 beds but was informed we are full and you’ve got what you booked! I commented that the “lux” part was also missing from the room! Also they only provided 1 of everything ie bathrobe, mug, etc until asked. The bathroom although tiny was spotlessly clean. The location is excellent. However would not return. Read less
