The William

Midtown, New York

The hotel

A newly opened Brownstone Boutique hotel with a private club feel, offering the very highest standard of comfort. Every floor at the William is a different colour and are perfect for a long or short stay in New York. Although modern, it’s a historic building you’re occupying; this was home to the Williams Club since 1924, a private alumni social club for the prestigious liberal arts school, Williams College. Not to be missed is a visit to The Shakespeare Dining Room, a restaurant that evokes an early 19th century English gentleman’s club atmosphere with rich wood panelling, oak parquet floors and marble fireplace. Located beneath is The Shakespeare Pub, boasting a menu of English pub grub, cask ales and wines. The Raines Law Room is another treat – a speakeasy-type lounge with curtained-off booths, service bells for waiters and an extensive drinks list. A unique base from which to explore, we think The William counts as a sight to see and experience in itself!

Retro Hotel with insanely cool and helpful Front Desk Staff. Room was hip, comfortable, and quiet. Bar was awesome. Great value for the $$. Location perfect just off Madison Ave. and E 39th. Will be back for sure!

My only complaint is the lack of paper towels in the kitchen area. What kitchen doesn't have paper towels? Using a bathroom hand towel in the kitchen is silly. Other than that, the room exceeded expectations. The complimentary umbrella upon arrival was a nice touch. When I come to NYC a few times a year I usually stay in Air B&Bs. I think I'll be… Read more

I strongly encourage you to stay in the William. This place is perfect in all respects. The location is central (literally five minutes from the Grand Central), the staff is efficient, friendly and approachable, the interior is stylish, and perks are very nice (complimentary coffee, tea, flip-flops). I loved all!

This historic building has been restored to a cute little gem right next to Grand Central and pretty much convenient walking distance to everything else! Front desk service with Nate was amazing, he was always helpful with luggage, giving us waters upon check out, friendliness, even a little bit of a later checkout. He was great and also willing to help out. The bar manager I believe at the speakeasy was great too, he saw we needed a quick app to the room before dinner and sent it immediately. Only recommendation is some countertop space in the bathroom and better bathroom lighting or a magnifying make up mirror would literally do the trick. Great stay, great staff. Read less

Truly a hidden gem! I stylish cosy hotel with helpful and nice staff located close (literally a five minute walk) to the Central Station. Despite quite a busy bar downstairs, everything was quiet in the living area (I lived on the 4th floor and slept like a baby although my windows overlooked the street with the main entrance to the bar). I would… Read more
