Nice front desk, but dirty, and plenty of problems. Avoid if you can. TV did not work. Clothes iron had some black goo on it (housekeeping promptly brought another (new) iron). Shower and bath were filthy. WiFi was struggle to work (had to call tech support). I will not return to Tryp. Next stay will be at Hotel Even - 50-feet from Tryp.

Would not stay here ever again! Although the hotel was nice at first sight, service here is appalling. We get to our room at 11:30 am and we put our luggage into our room put the ac down and left to explore the town. We get back to the room 6 hours later and the room had not cooled even 1 degree. We called the front desk and the technician came in and argued with us that we need to give it time to cool down. Even after informing him that we had been gone for many hours he continued to tell us we needed to give it time to cool. When we were sitting on the bed trying to relax after going out for dinner to give the ac more time, there was a wet spot on our bed that we were confused about but ignored it thinking we dropped some water. Getting into bed there were large wet spots on the sheets on both sides of the bed. The hotel supervisor came to the room and told us that on warm days they leave the sheets damp so that we know that they washed the sheets and it makes it feel cooler when getting into bed. Mind you this was a 50° day. When housekeeping came in to change the sheets they had never heard of keeping the sheets wet either. I am family of a wyndham employee and have never had an experience like this before. Read less

We stayed as a family with 3 kids for 7 nights at the Tryp hotel and really liked our stay. The room had - one king bed, bunk beds and a sofabed, - 2 bathrooms, - a small 'kitchenette' with sink, minibar fridge, microwave and coffee machine, - a large closet with safe, and ironing facilities, - one tv - a luggage rack near the entrance and a chest of drawers and a desk/office. The room was spacious and the King bed could be separated from the rest by a sliding door (though the last approx. 40 cm under the ceiling were 'open' ); with the open sofa bed the entrance area was really narrowed and circulating from the entrance to the beds and/or to the second bathroom was a bit tricky. Both bathrooms were reasonably sized and fully equipped - there was even one hairdryer. There were some minor points we noticed, but didn't bother us too much, such as about 10 cm missing of the baseboard, uncovered drill holes in the wall / wallpaper, the dispensers in both showers being taken off but the fixations still on the wall which looked a bit odd. But as I said, this didn't bother us, as the space and cleanliness was more important to us. The rooms was always well cleaned, only the windows were really dirty, but well it's New York and with rain, dust and fumes, I guess the windows are dirty most of the time. Hotel amenities: there's an bar/restaurant inside the hotel adjacent to the lobby and we had dinner there on the first evening as well as breakfast in the morning. Full breakfast buffet is $15,95 & taxes and half price for kids. As I don't eat most of the things on a breakfast buffet, I asked for a serving of plain pancakes, which are on the breakfast menu displayed on the bar and in the room. At first I was told, that they wouldn't do that menu anymore, but finally I got my pancakes each day ;-) My husband and kids had the full breakfast buffet each day. The selection was ok, but sometime they ran out of pancakes, toast, eggs, fruit a.s.o. and it took rather long to refill. There are three computers & printer available for guests to use, an gym/sports and library /sitting room (unfortunately used mostly as luggage storage), an ATM and concierge service. (unfortunately the ATM was out of order on our last and second last day) Free WiFi in the room and shared spaces: sometimes tricky to get it going, like first connection in the morning, but then it worked well for the rest of the day. Staff: reception : friendly, kind and most helpful housekeeping: friendly, kind and most helpful concierge: a bit arrogant and superficial restaurant /breakfast: great people, really kind and most helpful Location: I don't understand how anybody could say this was a 'bad part of the city', 'no good location' or 'in a part of town where is nothing else' --these were remarks I read in some reviews, because it's definitely centrally located, only 0,1 mile - 2 minutes from 8th avenue and Madison Square Garden, Penn Station a.s.o There are plenty of shops on 34th between 8th and 5th Avenue, amongst others there's Macy's. Walking distance to: Empire State Building - 10 min. Times Square - 15 to 20 min. access to High Line 15-20 min. Intreprid - 20 min. We loved the location, and really loved our stay at Tryp New York City. Breakfast buffet is a bit expensive (like mostly everything in NY) but together with the good deal on the hotel room (booked directly vie hotel's homepage) it's been a real good deal for our family of five. We'll definitely recommend this hotel and hope to be back again. Read less

Enjoyed our stay at TRYP as it was conveniently located near the subway, close to Madison Square Garden and Hudson Yards. We thought the front desk was friendly and helpful in navigating our way around the city. Room was small but updated and bed was comfortable.

It had big rooms, but they were not clean. We had a cracked window in our room. The elevators were weird, and it was located in a bad part of town. The beds were very uncomfortable, and some of the dispensers in the bathroom were broken. Also, the breakfast was expensive. I would not recommend, or visit again.
