This hotel does not seem to have been improved since the nineties. The room was not clean -- dust on surfaces, smears (who knows?), etc. Had to ask for shampoo. Was offered a tea kettle, only to be told none was available, and would I like a coffee maker instead? Okay. Then there's the $20+tip "amenties" charge per day added to the bill. … Read more

Was offered a tea kettle, only to be told none was available, and would I like a coffee maker instead? Okay. Then there's the $20+tip "amenties" charge per day added to the bill. Does one have a choice about this? No; it's added whether or not you 'enjoy' the coffee. The front desk people are efficient and pleasant, but that's it. Read less

My Wife and I like to take a weekend in NYC a couple of times a year. We had found a nice little boutique Hotel on 29th street that we have been staying at when we did our overnights and had actually made a reservation for this past weekend there. When we say a great deal for the Kimpton Muse on Travelzoo we decided to switch. We are so happy we did. When you walk in the Lobby is absolutely magnificent. The Gentleman at the desk was personable and professional. We arrived about 11 A.M. and out room was ready. We were on the 8th floor. The King Bedroom was a normal NYC sized room. The bed took up most of the space, but there was more than enough room to walk around. The bed was comfortable. But one of the two minor complaints is “Why do Hotels have such soft mushy Pillows.” The second minor issue was while the bathroom was large enough, and the shower big enough for 2, the lighting as terrible. On the subject of the shower, the rain showerhead was heavenly! I want to get one for our home. It was sterange that the hallways did not seem to be air conditioned, but the room air conditioner worked perfectly. The restaurant is still not open. On the weekends from 5 to 6 p.m. they have wine in the lobby. We got back to the Hotel about 5:40, with a couple of friends and the four of us had a wonderful time sipping wine for about 40 minutes. Everyone we met was friendly and professional. We think we found a new “home” for our weekend visits to the City. Read less

I'm actually still here and about to check out. I arrived early and had to wait for a room which was understandable. That said, I was "upgraded" to a premier king room. I'm actually still here and about to check out. I arrived early and had to wait for a room which was understandable. That said, I was "upgraded" to a premier king room. And if this is an upgrade, I'd hate to see the regular rooms. Yes, it's a room in NYC in a hotel so they run small. But this one, to me, is just a room, with views of brick buildings. The first room, 611, had a large wet spot on the floor. It also smelled like dog pee. Yuck. I was told that guests with pets are usually placed on the 3rd floor but something went wrong somehow. Engineering did come to check the A/C but that wasn't the cause. Perhaps it was a spill, regardless, there was a smell. Yuck. Lots of peeling wallpaper all around in both rooms (the second is 511), coupled with dirty vents in the bathrooms. The nightstands have outlets built in but they didn't work correctly in either room, AND they're actually installed on the wrong sides of the bed in room 511. Other outlets in the room, including the one on the desk do not work right, and many lightbulbs in both rooms flicker which is annoying. (Bathroom mirror in 61, bedside and desk in 511). If you think the bed will be comfortable, think again. The bed in 511 is as hard as a rock. I didn't want to change to a 3rd room, so I sucked it up. The staff was really not all that great either. Seems like it is a huge inconvenience for some doormen to assist guests with transportation to JFK. And the guys working PM shift last night at the desk and door were so engrossed in their conversation that they barely bothered to respond to me when I said 'hello'. At least the hotel managed to have free coffee in the AM but I am getting tired of hotels not even bothering to offer ANY type of food or cocktails. They easily could have had a wine hour last night. I was given points in lieu of 'raid the mini bar' and a half bottle of wine but could we maybe offer a cocktail in a to-go cup and a granola bar? Location is great and the hotel is actually fairly quiet for being half a block off of Times Square. Plenty of places to eat close by as well. There's a cute little Cuban place 2 doors down where I had a pretty yummy breakfast for 7 bucks. Bargain. I love Kimpton hotels but lately it seems that they are going downhill and/or being reflagged as other brands or even becoming independent. I used points for this stay and in hindsight, I should have stuck with paying to stay at a Marriott brand in Lower Manhattan. Incidentally, the staff needs to WEAR MASKS! Not chin straps, not maskless. You have signs on the doors that say MASKS MUST BE WORN. That should mean staff too. NYC is becoming a hot spot for the Delta variant. Read less

I stayed in two different rooms- an executive room on the 6th floor and a suite on the 12th floor. Starting with the positives- By far the service. The front desk staff was excellent. Very friendly and accommodating. Regarding room #1 on the 6th floor. Comfortable bed and room overall but it faced the street and was incredibly noisy (and I sleep with earplugs). The hotel is not responsible for outside noise but it is responsible for soundproofing which clearly wasn't done. The other problem in the room was the air conditioning. The noise from the unit was so incredibly loud... it was the kind of unit you would find in a 2-star property, not at a Kimpton hotel. The other problem was the lighting. The rooms are dark and the windows are set quite high so you don't really have any natural light at all. The room is clean but the decor is very basic... not the highest quality. In my room the refrigerator froze whatever I put into it and the outlets did not work next to my bed. The bathroom was nice but the shower was disappointing. The water pressure was quite weak and the amount of shower gel given was miniscule. In the suite, there far was less outdoor noise but the room again had exactly the same shortfalls. Dark, same issue with the shower and decor. Very basic and uninspiring. The location is great if you are working in Midtown but the proximity to Times Square for me was a downside. Too many people and impossible to access via taxi/Uber because of multiple street closures during my stay. Overall, I would say this was an old property that was given a quick aesthetic makeover with very little investment (clunky doors with cheap handles, old elevators, old AC units...). Really it felt like a hotel from the 1970s with new IKEA furnishings. I would have expected more. Read less

From the warm welcome and assistance with the luggage at the front door, the friendly and knowledgeable staff at the front desk and everything in between - The Muse is always the best! We stayed for our son's 18th birthday with his friends and the staff was so accommodating and helpful with breakfast recommendations, dinner reservations, directions and suggestions. We had three rooms for our party and the rooms are spacious and extremely clean. It was really hot in NYC while we were there and the great air conditioning was such a treat at the end of the day! The location of the property is absolutely perfect - so close to everything - it just can't be beat! We have stayed at this hotel multiple times and each stay is better than the last! The General Manager (and all staff!) really go out of their way at The Muse! Read less
