Park Lane Hotel New York

Midtown, New York

The hotel

A benchmark for luxury Manhattan retreats, Park Lane Hotel is old-world New York at its very best. It exudes a definite air of upmarket class, with its well-dressed frontage opening into a grand lobby. But it’s what is outside the hotel that first wows guests – as you’re staying right along Central Park, one of the city’s most iconic landmarks. The address also puts you just a New York minute from other attractions, like Times Square, Carnegie Hall, and Fifth Avenue. With a location like this, it’s no wonder the architect designed oversized picture windows. Behind them, treats include a complimentary 24-hour fitness centre, free WiFi, and dining and drinks at The Park Room Restaurant, Harry’s Bar, and Café on the Green.

This is my second stay at this hotel; the first time we managed to upgrade to a park view room. This time we had an 11th floor "city view" which means looking at the windows of another hotel across the street. On our previous visit there was also a happy hour with free wine and hors d'ouevres in the dining room, but that has been eliminated. We did get instead a $10 daily credit to use at the coffee bar in the lobby, which was a good thing because there is no in-room coffee service. I was dismayed at the condition of our room, particularly the bathroom. There was a used bar of soap in the shower, hair on the floor, and a discarded shampoo bottle in the corner under the counter. Looks like the housekeeper was in a hurry to get out of there! The furniture is chipped and shabby, and the pillows are huge and hard; however the room is spacious enough and quiet. The best aspect of this hotel is the location. Even in winter time, access to the park is welcome since you get to see trees and grass and sky ! It's also very close to 3 subway stops, and if the weather is nice enough, walking distance to the theaters. The desk staff and bellboys were friendly and thoughtful. We enjoyed drinks and dinner at Harry's, especially when the temperature dipped to a windy 28 degrees and we didn't want to venture out. The low room rate soon became not-so-low with the addition of a $35/day "facility fee" and >$30 of NYC taxes. The facility fee really bugs me since there are really few facilities at this hotel. It's just an add-on to the room rate. Read less

About Park Lane I can tell good and bad things. Let start with the bad: The hotel needs to remodel the bathrooms, they are horrible. The mattress is old and horrible for the back. Now the good things: The best location in NYC Rooms are very cozy with good space. Very fancy lobby. I had breakfast in the hotel because is amazing and the employees are excellent, specifically two of them: Ali who is an excellent human being and made me feel like in my own house and also Sam whom I can say the same words that I told about Ali. Ali already knew mine and my family's taste for breakfast so he prepared everyday our needs with kindness and joy. When I go there I always sit in his working area. About the cleaning of the room, we stayed in the 30th floor and Estela (who was the cleaning lady) knowing that two women with long hair were in the room with me, she supplied with extra amenities because she knew they would need it, she is a person worried about our well being in our stay and she always had a smile in her face. Park Lane hotel is a good place to be! Read less
