Park Lane Hotel New York

Midtown, New York

The hotel

A benchmark for luxury Manhattan retreats, Park Lane Hotel is old-world New York at its very best. It exudes a definite air of upmarket class, with its well-dressed frontage opening into a grand lobby. But it’s what is outside the hotel that first wows guests – as you’re staying right along Central Park, one of the city’s most iconic landmarks. The address also puts you just a New York minute from other attractions, like Times Square, Carnegie Hall, and Fifth Avenue. With a location like this, it’s no wonder the architect designed oversized picture windows. Behind them, treats include a complimentary 24-hour fitness centre, free WiFi, and dining and drinks at The Park Room Restaurant, Harry’s Bar, and Café on the Green.

Read the other reviews carefully, they basically all say the same thing:  location is good, nothing else.  We got to our room, found hair all over the bathroom and dirty sheets on the bed.  Got a new room.  This room was so dusty I had to take allergy medication to sleep.  We found a lighter in the bed. There were only 3 working power outlets, this includes the lamp we unplugged. We booked the room for 3 nights.   Stayed 1 night Paid for 2 nights, that is what both my invoice says and the front desk person confirmed. 2 days later,  I was charged an extra 140 dollars (the 3rd night)   I have tried to get the charge reversed, by emailing billing.  I called but the phone is unanswered. This hotel is located directly across from Central Park South, a couple doors down from the famous Plaza Hotel. My husband & I stayed at this hotel in October 2019 for our first visit to NYC. We LOVED the Location and the lobby was beautiful. When we decided to bring our teens with us on our second visit to NYC in June 2021, I knew exactly where I wanted to stay. When we arrived at the hotel this time, the outside of the building and the lobby looked VERY different, as they are remodeling. Initially, I struggled with pangs of disappointment at this sight, however, those feelings quickly dissipated when we were greeted by the amazing staff. We arrived to the city at 8 am, planning to valet our rental car and store our baggage until check in time. Rodney, the bellhop / doorman, greeted us so warmly, with such a genuine personal touch. Edita at the front desk echoed his warmth and surprised us with TWO amazing treats -- early check-in and an upgraded room. When I say upgraded.... I mean I paid for the basic room. (NYC is expensive and as much as I LOVE nice rooms with nice views, I wanted to save money to eat ALL the New York food I could in my 3 days in the city!) Edita was so excited to offer this free "surprise". When we entered our room on the 38th floor, we were immediately "floored" with an incredible view of Central Park in all its glory! Rodney gave us a quick aerial "tour" of some of the popular sights. The view was amazing day and night. On our last night, a thunderstorm was moving in, so we sat in the dark in the window watching the lightning in the distance. This room upgrade made our NYC experience even better than we anticipated. The daily kindness of the staff, especially Edita & Rodney, took our stay to the next level. My 13 year old son even said at one point, " Wow! The manager of this hotel really knows how to hire people. If I owned a business, I would hire Edita and Rodney!" And THAT is the truest testament to HOW GREAT their service was... It even left a lasting impression on a teenage boy! Read less

They emailed me the night before leaving for my weeklong stay here that the AC in park-facing views for which I’d obviously paid extra was not working. There is no coffee available in the room or in the lobby or via room service. And now there is construction noise that they can’t appear to stop. We adopted 1 hotel across the street for coffee.… Read more

It’s a lovely boutique hotel with excellent coffee. Worth checking out. As to the park lane, you might wait till construction is complete. Read less

Unbeatable location for significantly less than the nicer properties on same street. Bathrooms are pedestrian and rooms could use update but as is, it’s worth every penny for location. Spend a couple extra bucks and get a higher floor. View of Central Park is great but we stayed much higher floor last time and it’s an even more impressive view… Read more
