2 nights to end our visit to NYC, and it was great. We arrived in the early afternoon, and the front desk staff was able to accommodate us and provide us with a room immediately. The Residence Inn and Courtyard share a lobby, but each has their own set of elevators (it seemed the Residence Inn had the higher floors). The room was small (just as most NYC hotel rooms are), but they made good use of the space. It was fine for the 2 of us, and we're used to smaller spaces like cruise ship cabins. There was plenty of natural light, and we had a very nice view of the Hudson River (from the 39th floor). Our room was clean and comfortable, and there were plenty of pillows. Wifi worked well and was easy to log on. Location is great on 54th Street and Broadway - walking distance to Central Park as well as many Broadway theaters if you plan to see a show. We didn't have time to partake in the free breakfast, but I did walk into the area one morning on my way out, and it looked to be very nice. Hot and cold foods with plenty of selection. The seating area is nice and large with so many windows to enjoy the view. The gym looked sufficient as well - large space with a few different rooms with plenty of equipment. Great stay with helpful (though not overly friendly) and efficient staff. Would definitely stay here again. Read less

Just checked in a few hours ago. Very helpful front desk. Keyed entree to elevators, room and lights. Very contemporary light and airy rooms but this is NYC. Rooms are small but well designed. Refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, small table with one chair. One overstuffed chair with ottoman. We have terrific views because we had a corner room which faced north and west. Free breakfast plus they have a large Starbucks on the fourth floor. We had a shower no tub which is fine for us. Don’t expect the Taj Mahal as far as space is concerned so you won’t be disappointed. Convenient to everything in the tourist area including shows, Central Park and many good restaurants. Read less

The Residence Inn New York Manhattan/Central Park, with its entrance on West 54th Street, is conveniently located between Times Square and Central Park. Arriving early as the hotel was advised, although there was no room available, informed it would be OK to change my shoes in the lobby as there is plenty of fresh air and then to leave my luggage with the bell desk. Unlike my experiences at other New York hotels there was no message to say when a room became available. Returning in the evening, I was assigned a room on a high floor; no one was on duty in the lobby to retrieve my luggage that eventually was delivered to the room. The well-equipped kitchenette stocked with coffee, a bag of popcorn, two bottles of water priced at $7 each with no complimentary bottled water provided. The very light colored early washroom-style-design walls of the elevators contrasted with the dark corridors that led to the room. The door opened onto a small kitchenette adjacent to the bedroom which had a separate bathroom with a shower. The telephone in the room was not working. Using a mobile phone I contacted the front desk who sent up two engineers. The engineers mentioned that earlier in the day room telephones in the same line of rooms were out of order requiring the service provider to come to the hotel to reprogram them. Not all of the rooms in this line were checked; I was advised to wait until the next day to be moved since no other room was available. A duty manager came up to the room to apologize. He confirmed he would arrange to add points for the inconvenience and move me to another room that had a bath tub. The following evening I was assigned another room (with a shower and no bath tub) to which my luggage had already been relocated. There was armchair which I used to place a suitcase as there was no luggage rack available; the same as with the previous room. The hotel has a laundry room for guests that is equipped with many washers ($2.75/load) and dryers (from $0.25/six minutes) but no laundry detergent. The hotel provided complimentary copies of the USA Today newspaper. When asked about the local newspaper, The New York Times, I was directed to an 8th Avenue news stand since the hotel didn’t offer that newspaper. At breakfast in the morning, which ended at 09:30 am, there was an uninspired selection of hot and cold dishes. Although the skim milk dispenser was empty every morning, on one occasion there was a skim milk container on the counter. Replenishment was slow. An empty fruit container with two fruits (oranges and bananas) was eventually replaced with a container of oranges. On my last morning, there were no ceramic cups available; when departing a staff member told me she would get some, however when I returned an hour later there were still none available. It was explained all ceramic cups put out had been used, the hotel being short staffed was given as a reason for not having any washed cups. Probably explaining why the breakfast tables were messy and not cleaned. On the last day of my stay, I phoned guest services explaining I had a late check out and would appreciate the room being serviced if possible, which I was told it was. Returning an hour later I repeated this request which was again accepted. When checking out I was informed the room was not serviced because the hotel was not a full service hotel and it did not provide such courtesies. I was offered some more points for the various additional inconveniences. Read less

We had a two-night stay again in Residence Inn New York Manhattan / Central Park in March. Because of the excellent experience in September last year, we didn’t think twice and immediately decided to stay in the same Marriott property when planning for this spring trip. There was a little hiccup upon checkin, as the Front Desk Manager who had promised us a price match had just been transferred out and the staffer at the front desk had to spend some time figuring out how to honor the hotel’s promise. We were eventually assigned a two-bed suite on the 54th floor on Broadway, which offered the same lovely sunrise view as our first stay there. We did ask about the possibility of a suite with a different view, in particular the Central Park, but were told that two-bed suites are all on this side of the building with the same view. Our last experience had been that breakfast was below standard, in terms of food quality and service—by the standards of NYC hotels and Residence Inns elsewhere such as London. We thought we should give it another chance, but it turned out to be a mistake. Tough luck. One small problem was that the coffee maker in our suite was broken. We requested to have it replaced not long after checking in and were told ‘sure, right away!’, but it never got taken taken of. Being the highest hotel building in America Residence Inn NY Manhattan / Central Park certainly offers an unbeatable view. For some reason we felt the staff was not as friendly as what we had seen the last time we were there. The vibe has just changed. We being Marriott Bonvoy members may try another Marriott property when we’re in NYC again this fall. Read less

From Mark at check in, to Megan managing a phenomenal team throughout our stay, to Eric assisting us making our flight during an early morning departure, I could not think of a better place to stay. Awesome breakfast that the kids loved, something hot and tasty for everybody. Lots of great coffee. Don't get excited about the size of the rooms. DO Get excited about being walking distance to many, many great spots in the city, including Times Square. New York City is an incredible place that must be enjoyed over and over again. The staff at this hotel are among the many reasons why New York is so great. Thank you Residence Inn New York Manhattan/Central Park! Read less
