New York, USA

The hotel

The perfect hotel if you’re looking for a place to stay between connecting flights or before joining a cruise. If you’re looking for a cheaper way to visit Manhattan, this hotel could be the ideal option for you. Trains depart the airport to New York Penn Station for less than $20 dollars return and a journey time of 40 min, so you can shoot into town to catch the sights, whilst staying in a hotel with far more affordable and larger rooms. The rooms here are great as well with really comfy beds, ideal if you’ve just got off a really long flight or have been pounding the Manhattan streets all day. The staff here are very welcoming offering a friendly and efficient check-in services. The Chatfields Pub has a nice atmosphere and is open late, ideal for a nightcap before you head to bed, or for more substantial meals try Mangiare di Casa serving an excellent selection of casual Italian/American New Jersey meals. Best of all even though you’re in the middle of an airport you really won’t hear those airplanes from inside the hotel, it’s like a veritable oasis!

An airport hotel is good for one thing and one thing only: a good night’s sleep before an early morning flight or a place to crash after a late flight. By that metric, this Marriott fails. The walls of the rooms were very thin, and my neighbours were very loud. Or at least they were talking loudly enough that I could hear clearly every word of their conversation. It’s not particularly great when you’re trying to fall asleep. I should have brought earplugs. The pillows were comfortable. Ancillary thoughts: - I appreciated the corner couch and table. - I did not appreciate ordering and paying for a bottle of sparkling mineral water and receiving instead a small bottle of filtered water. - The airport shuttle was quick and convenient. My one-night stay certainly wasn’t worth the $140 (pre-tax) that it cost. Read less

We spent the night before we flew out and it was a great location. The rooms were clean and sleek. The beds were comfortable. The prices are appropriate for a major city hotel near an airport. The shuttle worked great from the hotel and was on time. The staff was friendly. We would stay here again.

United changed our flight to Aruba forcing a layover at EWR. We are Marriott Bonvoy so the choice was simple. It’s a $10.00 Uber ride from the terminal to hotel. We were greeted promptly, room was clean and efficient. The shuttle runs every 15-20 minutes and had us back to the terminal for our early morning flight out. This is an airport… Read more

Great check in, great room, great shuttle, great location. However, I am not too happy about the break fast that I prepaid for and was charged later. First, I go to get breakfast with another guest, and I have to order it from an app. The waiter was NO help, just order on the app and good luck. He didnt even bring coffee or water. First, I go to get breakfast with another guest, and I have to order it from an app. The waiter was NO help, just order on the app and good luck. He didnt even bring coffee or water. The night before, we had dinner and drinks at the resturant and Hector took our order and brought our food. Great guy. The breakfast was a joke. Then, to find out I was charged $33 for the breakfasts after having prepaid for the breakfast, that put me in a bad mood to write this. I would love the manager's email, but can't seem to get that, so have written a reservation person. Marriott, you can do better than this. Read less

I was looking forward to a nice stay and am on the fence. The bed is comfortable. The hot water was hot but not hot enough. It also took some time to heat up. Upon arriving at my room, there is a bottle of water outside my door NOT from the hotel. Where are the maids? I requested a late check out after four failed attempts to reach the front desk. Where were they? I asked for a bellhop to help me with my bags at my late check out time. Front desk says they don't have bellhops but they DO have the luggage racks in the lobby. Surprising since I got help with my luggage upon check-in. Where are they today? I expected more from a high-end hotel. The room service is unavailable unless you have a smartphone. The restaurant, same deal. I don't have a smartphone. Where are regular menus? There are hand sanitizers IN the elevators. What idiot thought this up? We are supposed to touch the button, wait for the elevator and THEN sanitize? At every hotel that I have been to since the pandemic has hand sanitizer OUTSIDE every elevator on every floor. Cost cutting measure over personal health? If you are in the area, stay somewhere else and save money. I do not recommend this property and give it thumbs down. Read less
