Newark Airport Marriott

New York, USA

The hotel

The perfect hotel if you’re looking for a place to stay between connecting flights or before joining a cruise. If you’re looking for a cheaper way to visit Manhattan, this hotel could be the ideal option for you. Trains depart the airport to New York Penn Station for less than $20 dollars return and a journey time of 40 min, so you can shoot into town to catch the sights, whilst staying in a hotel with far more affordable and larger rooms. The rooms here are great as well with really comfy beds, ideal if you’ve just got off a really long flight or have been pounding the Manhattan streets all day. The staff here are very welcoming offering a friendly and efficient check-in services. The Chatfields Pub has a nice atmosphere and is open late, ideal for a nightcap before you head to bed, or for more substantial meals try Mangiare di Casa serving an excellent selection of casual Italian/American New Jersey meals. Best of all even though you’re in the middle of an airport you really won’t hear those airplanes from inside the hotel, it’s like a veritable oasis!

Stayed here due to a last minute change by United which required us to spend the night in Newark. Not really the easiest walk with 2 kids as you have to pass over a few roads and a guardrail. Check in was easy and uneventful. Once in the room we went to use the toilet and found it to be dirty. Made us question how clean the rest of the room was after our discovery. Read less

Our stay for one night was comfortable. It would have been better if the bathroom was bigger. This room had a very small cramped bathroom with no space for free movement. Felt claustrophobic. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. The room did not have a fridge. The location is excellent in terms of proximity to Newark airport. They have… Read more

The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. The room did not have a fridge. The location is excellent in terms of proximity to Newark airport. They have a huge parking lot. But getting in and out of the parking lot was a pain. The room key was supposed to open the gates, but it never worked. Had to call the Front desk every time. This was inconvenient and needs to be fixed. , Read less

We had a late evening check-in and called ahead to request a room upgrade (Titanium). We were advised no upgrades were available but we were booked on the high "executive" floor. Shuttle infrequency after 8 or 9 pm meant that we would wait a long time at the airport. We ended up walking across the parking lot. That was no big deal. At the check in desk we got the bum's rush. The clerk must have had more important things to do. She did make a point of telling us how busy they always are and why there are never upgrades available. In response to a question, she told us the Concierge Lounge closed at 8 and opened at 6. We could order from the Aviation Lounge using the QR code. Our room was tiny which we are accustomed to in NYC hotels, but the lack of comfort and convenience was not what we expect from Marriott. The reservation was for 2, and typically when we stay at a Marriott we are in a room where our preferences have been accommodated prior to our arrival. There was a single water bottle in the room on the Executive Level and not a single acknowledgement of our Titanium status. Now, where is that QR code to order room service? It's on the TV which we hadn't turned on. Could easily have been posted on the wall or somewhere in the room but let the guest figure it out. (We called the desk for the first of several times). There seem to be a lot of shortcuts in the name of COVID that come at the guest literal and figurative expense. We ordered, and picked up but once back in the room there is no place to eat. Food was acceptable, not special. We ordered for 2 people, they included service for 1 and a single water bottle. There is a corner sofa in the room, but no table. Picnic style is not my thing in the hotel. Next morning we head to the Concierge Lounge to have coffee and some breakfast and find it is "open" but there is no service. No food, no water in the fridge, no staff, no coffee. Check the TV - it SAYS the lounge on the 10th floor is open and gives hours but it is most definitely NOT open. Let's call the desk again. - The Concierge Lounge is in the lobby. Down we go for coffee and we find Fairfield Inn type prepackaged breakfast pastries in the "Elite Lounge" just off the main desk. Business Center to print our boarding passes? Pay to use the computer. This IS NOT a full service hotel, it's more like a NO service hotel. AND the folio receipt sent in email won't open. Grades: Communication F, Room Quality D, Service F, Acknowledgment of Elite status F. Final comment about Marriott that bothers me is that if you want to provide a review directly to the hotel, good luck. You are "invited" to review. This should be EVERY guests privilege. The standard response from "Alaina C, Executive Assistant" is very patronizing. Read less

The housekeeping staff was also very friendly and responsive. The rooms were modern and very clean, all you can really ask of an airport hotel. A minor criticism is a lack of a safe and refrigerator. You can get to the hotel from a free shuttle they run every 15 minutes. Although not recommended, you can actually walk to the hotel from Terminal B by going through the terminal parking lot and jumping a low guard rail and crossing a not too busy street. From the airport, you can easily get to New York City via AirTran, connecting to NJ Rail. Will definitely stay here again. Read less

My husband approached the Bonvoy Elite desk attendant and was told they weren’t honoring status tonight and he should get in line with the others. We were given our room keys and tried to order food from the restaurant in the lobby through the app. The bartender told us to go back to the front desk to get the table number (because they hadn’t given us a table.). We found a booth the kids could sit in to watch the game and received all of our burgers bloody in the middle. My husband sent his back 3 times but since they closed at 10pm, we couldn’t order more and just gave up. A very disappointing night here! Read less
