I recently took my mother to NYC for the first time, and found this hotel through some digging. The location was fantastic with a great view of Manhattan across the river. The staff were incredibly kind and responsive and made sure we had a good experience. I had seen other reviews mention unexpected charges, but the information was on their website and when I checked in, the person at the front desk had me sign a waver with all of the information regarding charges on it, so no harm there. Overall, a great experience and if I'm in need of a hotel again, I definitely know where to look! Read less

Comfortable neat hotel. Special mention to their reception staff, maintenance engineer and especially the bus driver John. Friendly and efficient. The engineer was quick to respond and rectified a faulty heater unit by the time I came back from my city visit. Enough food choice for breakfast to start the day. i loved the room and the hotel. parking is free around if you can spot a vacant spot with no restrictions. however, night audit front desk was not friendly. (old black lady with large forehead) never smiled and kind of irritated all throughout the conversation. i was a former front desk/night audit and as a flight attendant presently, im used to… Read more

(old black lady with large forehead) never smiled and kind of irritated all throughout the conversation. i was a former front desk/night audit and as a flight attendant presently, im used to interacting with hundreds of front desk people. she is one front desk that i don't want to encounter again. we did not get the cocktails that was included upon checkin. decent continental buffet breakfast. just because of that front desk girl that was not welcoming and friendly, will not come back again. simply talking to her made us uncomfortable. doesnt seem interested that we were there. If you are looking for a hotel with good views of Manhattan then this one has excellent views across the river. The rooms are basic but comfortable, clean and tidy. They are starting to show a bit of age, our sink had a crack and small hole in it and one plug socket was coming away from the wall a little but other than that we had no complaints and these things did not affect our stay. There are no tea/coffee facilities in the room but coffee and hot water is available round the clock from the bar. The staff were friendly and helpful, the place was clean and tidy. Breakfast was basic but okay. There is a shuttle bus which runs from 8am-4pm and drops you just outside of Bloomingdales. There is a subway station 10 minutes walk away with only a couple of minutes travel time into Manhattan. The hotel is in a commercial district, plenty of body shops about, however we walked back to the hotel late at night from the subway and never felt unsafe. There is also a supermarket next to this station which avoids you having to pay for the rather expensive mini bar. There is a rooftop terrace but it was closed the entire time we were there (November). Don't expect it to be open anytime other than summer - this is a great shame, even if the bar was closed up there it would have been nice to be able to get on it just for the views. When compared to other hotels in New York we found this one cheap and convenient. If you are on a budget then it's worth a go. Read less
